Focus on something other than the negative
Once again I bought a local Potomac News newspaper this morning in the hopes that I could renew my subscription, but I was subjected to the usual opinion pieces bashing Republicans, McCain in particular, and the current administration in general.
Lawmakers must fix traffic gridlock
On Monday, June 23, Prince William’s state legislators return to Richmond to take care of unfinished business during a special session on transportation.

Barack Obama: A wolf in sheep’s clothing?
My letter is in response to Larry Remener’s letter on June 8, when he came to Obama’s defense of why it doesn’t matter that Obama REFUSES to wear an American flag pin. Mr. Remener — have you ever wore a pin bearing the American flag?
Parking enforcement done right at the mall
I think Potomac Mills is doing exactly right in their enforcement of parking. I listen to what each of the people had to say on the news and find them to be very rude.
Transportation planning in the state of Virginia
The Special Legislative Session called by Gov. Tim Kaine to deal with the commonwealth’s transportation problems begins on June 23. There have been many proposals to fix transportation: The governor has proposed a plan that increases several taxes.
What penalty is there for VDOT?
Why is it that every time Richmond announces a new transportation plan, the costs fall squarely on the shoulders of Virginians? Don’t we have just a few out-of-state drivers passing through our
commonwealth?

McCain’s experience is not what we want
The Republican presidential nominee, John “Older than the Golden Gate Bridge” McCain, has a lot of government experience.
The disastrous reign of the Bush administration
Have you ever had one of those AAARRGH! moments? I had one a couple of days ago when I opened the Potomac News and read about how President George W. Bush had finally decided that perhaps we needed to strengthen the American dollar.
Equal time on big oil contributions
Just to give the GOP equal time, as referenced in http://www.opensecrets.org, in the last report period (March 31, 2008), Exxon Mobil contributed $18,801 to Senator John McCain in the 2008 fundraising cycle.

How Republicans should be acting
In his June 12 letter, Scott Barley claims he will be voting Republican for the first time this year. He considers Barack Obama a “huge threat to our nation” because Obama never served in the military.
Habeus corpus remains standing
Recently, the Supreme Court overturned the Bush administration’s attempt to throw out the writ of habeas corpus (the right of a prisoner to face his accusers and be told why he is being held).

The mistakes of the war on drugs
Twenty two years ago this week, Len Bias died of a cocaine overdose. His death stunned the sports world and left an indelible mark on our justice system.

The uphill debate on illegal immigration
Well Mr. Bond I hate to say this, but I do know a about the history of Manassas and that’s why I am trying to get my point across.
Lawmakers should restore VRE funding
Conservatives, moderates and liberals of both political parties should join hands together in Richmond to approve the governor’s fee and tax increases to fund the expansion of VRE’s operations.
The energy crisis in the state of Virginia
Virginians need to pay very close attention to the electrical utility crisis that is about to be thrust upon residents and businesses in the commonwealth.

Our hats off to the linemen
Tuesday night we were hit hard by the thunderstorms resulting in a microburst that left many trees down.
Support for education should be a priority
Education has never been more important to Virginia. A quality education provides opportunity and keeps young people on the path to a bright future. It is, and always has been, the most powerful engine for upward mobility in our nation.
Fighting to save a 17-year-old program
Alert to PWC taxpaying family caregivers of senior citizen relatives.
Come out and support the Senior Day program
Once again, the Prince William Board of County of Supervisors is planning to spend more of our tax dollars.

Rebutting unfair letter about Del. Frederick
On June 8, the Chairman of the Prince William Democratic Committee had a letter published unfairly attacking Del. Jeff Frederick, who recently rose to be chair of the Virginia Republican Party.
Help us be the best we can be
Our Prince William County government needs help from the community to do its best.
Time for a change in both parties
The article by Alfred Biddlecomb titled “ Be careful what you ask for,you might get it.” was great but the same argument applies to both parties.
Report confirms our worst suspicions
So the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has finally released its report stating what most of us have suspected for the last five years.

Don’t give up freedom for Socialism in November
Be careful what you wish for. Before you decide who you will vote for in November, think long and hard.
Frisbie follows the Clinton handbook
This is in response to Pete Frisbie’s letter regarding Jeff Frederick.
Drive on the right, pass on the left
Whether you are on Interstates 95, 295, 395, 495, 695, 66, 123, 234, 236, Route 1 or any other road with two or more lanes going in the same direction, remember these eight simple words: “Drive on the right, pass on the left.”
A health care plan that works
Health Care is once again a public talking point since we are in an election year. Obama is gaining a following by promising to deliver health care, along with every other feel good entitlement anyone could want.
Who gets money from Exxon/Mobil?
Guess who are number two and three recipients of money from this “evil Big Oil” company:
2 — Barack Obama $32,550
3 — Hillary Clinton $22,621
High hopes that Frederick will stay
I read Pete Frisbie’s June 8 letter to the editor with a great deal of interest and curiosity. As the democratic chair, Mr. Frisbie professes to know a lot about Jeff Frederick’s election as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
