I came to Prince William County in the winter of 1996 and have seen many changes take place; this newspaper being one of those changes, who changed with the times. 

Remember when Barack Obama’s patriotism was questioned because he wasn’t wearing a flag pin?

Once again, Corey Stewart falsely claims ownership of a program started by another by stating the “Home Help Program” is another “First-In-The-Nation” proposal by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. 

Prince William County is in the process of updating the “Strategic Plan” to lay out the long-term vision to the year 2012.  This will provide the strategies, objectives and outcomes in the areas of “Economic Development, Education, Human Services, Public Safety and Transportation.”

I wanted to tell you a story. People are going too fast. 

Barack Obama’s roots are in Kansas, Illinois and Hawaii. He also earned a degree from Harvard Law School. 

There is a saying going around that Barack Hussein Obama is a “post turtle.”

I find it frightening when I hear the person wanting to lead our country say Americans should learn to speak Spanish. 

I must defend my presidential candidate, Mr. John McCain, from the scurrilous attacks against his good character.

As a child of the ‘60s, I remember all the talk about free love and the flower children made it look like everybody was doing it.

I would like to respond to Shirley Collins letter to the editor of Aug. 21, regarding the Home Help Program that the Board of County Supervisors is considering. 

I am writing this because lately I have been dealing with people who don’t care about the rights of the disabled. I am disabled and use a chair to get around. 

Generally speaking I hope the newspaper starts printing letters that contain more substance than the ones that have been printed lately. 

I have an interesting question to pose: “What if John McCain were a black man?” If John McCain were a black man, he wouldn’t have been raised by an admiral and given immediate access to the Naval Academy. His family in the ‘60s would have probably been enlisted. 

What is change? What is Obama talking about?

Senator Jim Webb made “economic fairness” an important principle of his campaign. True to his word, he followed through for working Americans with his new GI Bill. 

A recent Senator Obama statement tells it all regarding his lack of leadership potential.

I got a good laugh from Charles Reichley’s column of Aug. 14, but it left me with two questions that need to be answered: 

I’m proud to be an American, but have serious worries about our nation’s future if Hollywood is allowed to continue to shape the minds of our young people. 

I loved the editorial by the editors regarding fact checking before allowing any letter to be printed. False! 

The Saddleback Civil Forum conducted between the Democrat and Republican presidential nominees provided both candidates with the opportunity to define themselves to the American public, undistorted by the bias of the major news media outlets. 

It is with much interest and dismay to continue to “study” the on-going directive of staff by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors to study a “Home Help Program” for PWC employees only. 

Here is advice from foreign policy leaders for Senator Obama.

Unlike the position taken in your August 13 editorial, I believe the Dumfries Town Council is doing the job it was elected to do.  That is, trying to follow the prescribed process for executing contracts and obtaining all information before voting on expensive contracts. 

There was a time (eight years ago) when I thought John McCain would make an excellent president. 

In all the hoopla about immigration reform,very little has been said about addressing the major attraction for illegal immigrants — jobs! 

The Rove attack machine and the Swift Boat guys are at it again! 

Arguably one of the best leaders this country ever saw was the late great Speaker of the House from Massachusetts, Thomas Phillip O’Neill, Jr. (Tip).
