Are the parents of Nokesville crazy?

As many know there’s a proposal to replace Nokesville Elementary School (420 students) with a new 850 student school.

Some get cost of illegals, others don’t

Dora Brooks gets it. The illegal alien students increase expenditures in the school budget.

Pennefather was energetic and happy

I am writing in regards to the article of Feb. 8, about the passing of Michael Joseph Pennefather.

Church attitude to illegals upsets reader

I find it upsetting that some churches in our county are demanding that taxpayers support illegal aliens.

Disgusted with politicians’ remarks

Thank you for your Feb. 3 article exposing the “Lobbyists largess to legislators.” I

Writer not surprised about Letiecq

I am not surprised that the Southern Poverty Law center labeled Greg Letiecq a nativist.

If waterboarding saves lives, do it

I just finished reading this article on the internet titled ” Bush explains veto of waterboarding bill.”
He should not only have vetoed the bill to stop waterboarding of terrorists, but should have called a press conference and ripped it up into little pieces in front of the cameras.

A real estate tax break for seniors

In the Potomac News letter to the editor published on March 8 by Andrew Jaeger “A senior citizen’s real estate tax concerns” precisely expresses my views too.

Clinton is no logical choice for president

I’d like to respond to Mr. Denton’s letter printed on March 7. He claims that Hillary Clinton is the only logical choice for president.

Unable to turn away from bigotry

Concerning the letter from Mr. Denton about Barack Obama’s Muslim background: My first instinct was to ask you why you would even print such a bigoted letter.

Thanks for the tax increase supervisors

Thanks Mr. Stewart and the Prince William County Supervisors for raising my taxes.

Strengthening Prince William Hospital

This is in response to a letter in the March 4 issue regarding the Prince William Health System (PWHS) merger with Inova Health System.

Further embarrassment from a local nativist

Did you really have to publish the embarrassing story that Greg Letiecq (and the misnamed “Help Save Manassas” a euphemism for the KKK) has now been recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a nativist?

Republican: Party that just says no

Republicans continue to be the party of NO. Whether it’s for the benefit of children’s education (NO pre-kindergarten for at-risk kids) or our transportation crisis (NO dedicated revenue stream for the future), their response is no. Add to the list, NO transparency in government and NO fair and balanced method of redistricting.

Writer thinks Colgan has been untruthful

A letter from Sen. Charles J. “Chuck” Colgan, D-Manassas, defending his votes for in-state tuition for illegal immigrants and his vote for a gas tax caught my eye. It was really an incredible letter.

Who can afford a cost of living increase?

In the Saturday edition, a writer wrote an opinion which was titled “Taxes are not evil and should not be feared.” The writer also closed with the oft-used excuse, “I’m willing to pay more money, sometimes, for more services.” This causes me to shudder.

Don’t duplicate what the media has done

I learned on March 8 that our federal government is spending $42 million to inform us of rebates to help the economy — something which the news media has already done!

Saved whether we want it or not

Sunday evening I received an e-mail from Del. Robert Marshall, R-Prince William. He was, refreshingly, succinct and direct. “Well, Bruce, do you now believe me about HB 3202 being unconstitutional?”

Purchasing whatever the chief needs

PWC police Chief Charlie T.  Deane has stated that he needs $3.1 million to install cameras in all 250 to 270 vehicles and that would protect officers against accusations of racial profiling.

No insult to be called a bad name

When I read Robert T. Molleur’s letter on March 5 describing liberalism as a “ mental disorder,” I was reminded of Harper Lee’s admonition in “To Kill a Mockingbird” that “It is never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is.”

The dark side of the delegation

The current General Assembly session has revealed the dark side of the majority of the members of the Prince William delegation to the the Virginia House of Delegates.

Letter writer uses smear tactics

It would seem that Robert Molleur’s answer to the problem of illegal aliens is to smear those who disagree with him.

Writer dissed by the Potomac Nationals

Well, I usually write to refute the rantings of Mr. Gary Jacobsen, but not today. But it’s springtime! The Potomac Nationals will be gearing up for another season at Pfitzner Stadium.

Is there a link between abortion and crime rate?

Gary Jacobsen’s article “The Crime Rate is Falling. Why?” invites explanations for a national violent crime rate that has supposedly been “in a freefall since about 1994.”

Animal issues and taxpayer dollars

Make no mistake about it, animal issues affect every person in this county whether you have a pet or not.

Real estate tax rate concerns from resident

I have a concern about the impending Real Estate Tax increase of 28 percent. I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income without a COLA other than that provided by Social Security.

Time to put our feet down for planet Earth

I was appalled to learn that John McCain was the only senator who two weeks ago chose to skip a crucial vote on the future of clean energy in America — dooming the measure to fail by just a single vote.

March 07, 2008

Obama, McCain or Hillary Clinton?

Obama, a war supporter or a woman with White House experience? You choose.

Salary increases are much too much

I was appalled by the story on the expected salary increases for the Prince William County Schools’ Superintendent and his deputies entitled “Superintendent due for a $14,000 raise.”
