A bad week for the Republican party

Last week was not a good week for the right (holier than thou) wing of the Republican party. It began with Sen. John McCain’s favorite pastor, John Hagee, apologizing for having referred to the Catholic church as “the great whore.” Hagee expressed “deep regret”  that Catholics might have found his comments “hurtful.”

The week ended with Mike Huckabee apologizing for joking about Sen. Barack Obama being shot at the convention of the National Rifle Association. Huckabee claimed that his remark “was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama.”

Hagee and Huckabee are both bewildered that sane and rational people would be offended by their statements. Perhaps I can explain why:  Hagee and Huckabee are a couple of bigoted, hypocritical, bible-thumping nuts.

I hope I didn’t offend anyone!

jVA,
Sen. Obama not only said he would talk to our enemies, he said he would do so without preconditions. When criticized, he then said he would do so with “preparation” but didn’t change the preconditions part. I am quite serious about Obama, I believe the use of vulgarities indicates ignorance, and the only time I am in same room with American Idiot is when the network I am watching thinks it is “news”.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Obama is a bad guy, but when you talk to me about “change”, I want to know what, where, when, why and how. When you say you are going to talk to our enemies, I want to know the gist of what you are going to say to them.
McCain is younger than I am, but he is older than Obama and more worldly. He has been nose-to-nose with the bad guys and he didn’t blink, even under torture.
I may be taking Mc                 cain with a grain of salt, but at least, I know he’s seasoned.

jVa, please don’t post facts here. That just muddies up the debate. It is so much easier for the Resolutionists to just pull facts out of their ... out of their hat.

Barnun says: “National polls have McCain ahead of Obama and pretty much always have had. “

I don’t put much stock in polls anyway, but where in the world do you come up with your “facts”?  Here are the latest polls for McCain v. Obama from 5/8 - 5/22:

Gallup: Obama +5
Rasumussen: Tie
Reuters: Obama +8
IBD: Obama +11
Democracy Corps: Obama +2
Battleground: Obama +2
Quinnipiac: Obama +7
ABC/Wash Post: Obama +7

The average national poll: Obama +5

Even in good old red state Virginia, I see SurveyUSA has Obama up +7 as of last week.

Maybe McCain has been winning the Rupert Murdoch poll for 52 straight weeks or something.  But here in reality its another story.

And I can’t believe that willow703 is buying into that “Obama will talk to our enemies” nonsense.  You can’t be freaking serious.  If you’re seriously willing to buy into that, please do the country a favor and save your votes for American Idol.

I agree with willow and Ron. we need better people in office for both sides of the party. I vote on my side of the block because of a few foundational issues but i dont have to like all the politicians on my team. I’m sure many from the other side feel the same.

I don’t think any further “help” is needed—BHO is fully capable of sinking his own boat with the words of his own mouth.  Let him be, and watch the fun.

One more thing, swiftboating is not all the republicans have left by any means. National polls have McCain ahead of Obama and pretty much always have had. Obama includes in almost every speech his statement of a Bush 3rd term. Obama has already started his swift boating tactics.

The problem with this article is also the problem with our political environment today. Larry sweeps the entire Republican Party with his “holier than though” statement. That would be similar to saying the Entire democratic party lives on the extreme fringe with Soros. I beleive most americans are much closer to center even if they are on one side of the line or the other. Good Job Larry, Maybe Dean will hire you to help vomit up some more rhetoric.

Funny, the Dem candidates have already both been whining unfair and they’re talking about each other ! Now Obama is throwing down the gauntlet to leave his wife alone. sure, then get her out of political spotlights. you cant have it both ways. I love that the libs want to jump on one christian bashing another as if this somehow makes the party racist, while at the same time trying to pretent that Obama’s spiritual guide of 20 yrs, the man that married him, the man that baptized his children, the man that has supposedly given him his moral foundations has turned out to be the biggest racist in public eye under any circumstances. Wright would be the equivalent of McCain being a member of the KKK for 20 yrs but the libs want to give Obama a pass !!?? Obama has had to denounce his freinds and gag his wife and he’s not even in the general campaign yet. Nobody will have to “swift boat” him, just expose him. I will say that Obama is a great speaker. I think he’s the Hurdy Gurdy of our time.

I agree with Ron that we need better Democrats. We also need better Republicans. As a liberal independent, I have problems with both sides. I will vote for McCain, because I know where he stands. All I know about Obama is that he is for change; what why; how, he doesn’t say. He will talk to our enemies, what he will say, I don’t know. The liberals that he represents think that: If they say the right words to the crocodiles, the zebra & wildebeest can negotiate a safe river crossing. Yes, we talked to the Chinese & the Russians and they didn’t attack us; they sent proxies to do the job.
Conservatives say if we cut spending, we can cut taxes. Of course, we can’t cut spending for their pet projects & and we can only tax some for things that all use; like transportation.
Each side calls the other names because, in the end, it’s not about “our” nation, it’s about “my” nation; it’s not about “we”, it’s about “me”; it’s not about the “community”, it’s about “ideology”.
Will history some day say, “They tried to save the United States by destroying it and failed? The more I read & the more I hear, the more I believe that will be the future judgement.
