Addressing the mess that Bush made

Don Scott’s letter of July 26 was ostensibly a response to my criticism of George W. Bush and John McCain for showing disdain for our troops by opposing Sen. Jim Webb’s G.I. bill, and then
hypocritically claiming credit for its passage. He never addressed either point. Facts are hard to dispute.
Mr. Scott’s defense of Bush was surreal. He claims that —thanks to George W. Bush — we are now “able to walk the streets and drive our cars without fear of attack.” Apparently, in the pre-Bush years,
Mr. Scott had to clear his driveway of improvised explosive devices each morning and then dodge rocket and mortar attacks on Interstate 95 en route to his paper-shuffling job at the Pentagon.
That explains all those medals for “other than combat situations” he had cited in an earlier letter.
Mr. Scott also credits Bush with “leading the effort to keep the USA safe and secure.” Did the 9/11 attack not occur on Bush’s watch? Had Richard Clarke, Bush’s counterterrorism director, not tried to
warn Bush of the likelihood of a terrorist attack?
Discussing Bush’s leadership on CBS’s “60 Minutes” on March 21, 2004, Clarke — whose national security credentials dated back to the Reagan administration — stated: “I think he’s done a terrible job
in the war against terrorism ... He ignored it. He ignored terrorism for months, when maybe we could have done something to stop 9/11.” Clarke further stated that, after 9/11, “we got together all the FBI
experts, all the CIA experts.” The conclusion: Iraq had nothing to do with the attack.
One final note.
This “hateful, vindictive, mean, bitter, whacky, freaked-out, liberal hatemonger,” as Mr. Scott describes me, voted for George W. Bush, not Al Gore, as Mr. Scott suggests.
How was I to know that when Bush promised to put an end to nation building, he meant here in the United States?

Did anyone notice that the price of a barrel of oil has dropped from $145 to under $115 since Senator Obama brought forth an energy policy that could be implemented immediatly, while John McCain continues to spout the same, tired Republican position that only serves to support Big Oil?
While not yet elected president Senator Obama’s Tire Pressure Policy has reduced American consumption of oil and hence, both the price per barrel and the price at the pump have dropped. Thank you Senator Obama!
Still waiting for something from you John ..... McSame.

Godsaveus - I guess you’ll need to point out what I said that was not fact. Seems pretty accurate to me.
Do we have a terrorist network that would desire to destroy the United States? Well sure, no arguement on that. <fact> Which is why I keep saying it would have been nice to focus on the terrorists rather than spend, what 5 years, hundreds of billions of dollars and a few hundred thousand of God’s children’s lives in Iraq trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. <fact>
And they ARE God’s children aren’t they? <fact> Or are there two or more Gods out there? You guys confuse me sometimes with the ideal that God wears an American flag <non-fact> on his lapel.
You have to admit Bush thought we would be greeted as liberators (fact) and we’d be in and out of Iraq in a few months. Oops, someone did not look in the Republican 20/20 future crystal ball.
Bush made a mistake, has continued to compound it, and is not man enough to admit it. <fact>

When gas went to $2.50 a gallon before Libs were the majority in the House & Senate, Stretch Pelosi blamed Republicans for the high gas prices. But when gas went to $4.50 a gallon while libs were in power, it’s not their fault. You idiots are just laughable. Again, libs are on the wrong side of history and will pay the price again in November. We will be sending BHO (aka Mickey Mouse) back to Il with his tail tucked between his legs. He can continue his socialist work there. Man the Democratic Convention will be fun to watch. Can’t wait for the Hillary supporters to crash the party. Also heard they are running out of Limos for the convention. Man Al Gore could make millions selling those carbon credits to all those leer jet libs.

According to Charles Reichley in today’s column, the fault for all the ills of our nation today rests with the Democratic Party because they gained a tenous hold on power 17 months ago.
I think the modern Republican Party should adopt a new logo and slogan. Instead of the elephant, they should use an “Alfred E. Neuman” look alike, and use the slogan “Its not my fault!“

Al-Qaeda and all the rest of Islamic extremist groups has a common enemy, the western culture, group of infidels lead by United States, those groups exist and we have members of those groups among us, in the United States like we had before, at least read the news, so you can speak base on facts.

I’m not willing to put the blame for 9/11 at Bush’s feet any more than I’m willing to accept those who want to blame Clinton. Bush was still fairly new to the office. And I don’t think he was the only person in America who wasn’t paying a lot of attention to terrorism at that time. It was a clever attack that caught all but a handful of people off guard. I can’t stomach people trying to politicize what happened.
In spite of that, I still think Bush will go down as one of the worst Presidents in history. The mess in Russia/Georgia is a direct result of his inept dealings with Russia over the past eight years.
Amazing! With only a few months left in office, I didn’t think his legacy could get any worse.

Mr. Scott also failed to note that each time an election date approached, President Bush raised the Terror Alert Level to Code Orange. Was this done because an attack was forthcoming or simply to install fear into voters?
Saying Bush has kept our country safe is like saying the governor of Virginia kept our roads safe simply because we made it to work today. The odds favor our safe arrival as do the odds that we won’t be attacked again in the future by the Saudis - as we were on Sept 11th.
