I am appalled yet not surprised, that you would run that nasty cartoon of Pope Benedict on July 22. Where were you when the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed made the rounds?

You were not brave enough to run them, but Catholics once again are easy prey! Shame on you!

Yeah I’ve heard you disagree several times now.  I just have yet to see you post anything supporting your argument.  I guess you consider repeatedly calling me a fool an argument.  Oh well.

This cartoon could have been a picture of the Pope in a Hitler costume chopping the heads off puppies.  I don’t CARE if I’ve seen it with my own eyes or not.  It is still an issue of FREE SPEECH.

If it makes you feel better, I’ll go to the library and look for this particular specific cartoon.  What do you think that is going to change?  I’m going to look at it, be appalled, and say, “Oh my goodness no!  I cannot support freedom of speech in this particular case!”

I’ll now leave you to “discuss” this topic with yourself because you’re boring me to death.  Enjoy!

jVA, I fully support your right to have an opinion on a matter about which you have no knowledge, since you never bothered to look at the cartoon.

I am free, however, to disagree with your uninformed opinion.

Yeah you’ve said that like eight times now like you’re making some amazing point, but you just sound like you’re not intelligent enough to back up your opinions.  If you don’t have anything new to add to the discussion other than to call me a fool, then just save it for the rotary club or whatever.

Whether I’ve seen this particular cartoon of the Pope or not, it is still a free speech issue and my opinion is still the same.  I’m sure there are several thousand editorial cartoons concerning the Pope, some of them even in poor taste, that I have never personally viewed with my eyes.  The issue is still the same.  In our country, we enjoy freedom of speech and I support any cartoonist’s right to express an opinion and any newspaper’s right to publish editorial opinions.

You and Maria Christian seem to support freedom of speech as long as it is speech with which you agree.  The irony is that this is basically the same attitude of the Islamists who threatened the Dutch newspapers, though not as extreme.

Its funny how Bush always says the terrorists “hate our freedom”.  Apparantly some Americans hate our freedom, as well.

Since you haven’t seen the cartoon, jVA, I have yet to “see, hear and read opinions with which I can agree” come from you. Inform yourself before you make a fool out of yourself even more.

“Why are you even in this conversation? “

I’m commenting on the topic of editorial opinion and freedom of speech.  Did somebody die and make you the message board moderator?

Oh wait, I get it.  You’re just a person who only wants to see, hear and read opinions with which they agree.  What an interesting worldview you must have.

Let’s review, jVA: You haven’t even seen the cartoon.

Why are you even in this conversation?

“Kindly tone down your hatred, jVA. It’s blinding.”

Typical.  Attack the person.  Don’t address the issues.  I hope that’s working for you.

Unfortunately for the Pope and Catholics I guess, we enjoy freedom of speech here in our country.  Cartoonists are free to draw unflattering pictures of his royal Popiness, and you’re free to complain about it in the pages of the Potomac News.

Also, I would love to know more about this vast amount of editorial commentary on Mohammed that the Potomac News is neglecting to run on the basis of political correctness.  I didn’t realize that like the Pope, Mohammed is out travelling the world, commenting on world affairs and telling poor people in AIDS stricken Africa that God will be angry if they use condoms.

And incidentally, jVA, this particular cartoon was culled from some Spanish website or publication. Gee, why would the MJM publish Spanish cartoons about Catholics?
