Barack Obama’s word is worthless

Recently, Sen. Barack Obama broke a promise he made to the American people. He refused to take part in public financing for the general election. This contradicted a signed promise he made to all
Americans. Instead, Senator Obama has decided to opt out of his pledge and put politics above the most important thing he has to offer the American people — his word.

This decision by the freshman senator from Illinois proves that his word is worthless and that what he is saying now on the campaign trail is as good as dirt. This choice by Senator Obama begs us to ask
what promises will he break to the American people should he be elected President of the United States. It’s clear to me now that Senator Obama is not for the “change” in Washington he talks about,
but just a lot of potential broken promises.

willow703,

Sen. Obama NEVER signed a pledge to take public financing in the general election campaign.  Sen. McCain, back in the primaries when he was broke, DEMANDED that the future Democratic nominee (already looking to be Obama) sign a pledge with McCain to use public financing.  Obama only gave a response that he would think about it.

There is no reason for Obama to give up a huge tactical advantage over McCain by accepting public financing and limiting the reach of his message.  Other than the fact that Obama’s tactical advantage over McCain really pisses off the Republicans.

I mean, if this issue really upsets McCain so much, he could also forego public financing and spend more than the FEC-imposed limits.  Oh, that’s right, he can’t raise the amounts of money Obama is raising.

““Johnny did it, so it’s OK if I do it.” is an adult excuse? That is the excuse that Obama used. “

Once again, you have posted this statement about a dozen times now but I have yet to see you back it up with any fact.  Please, share a quote of Obama saying “Johnny did it, so it’s OK if I do it.“  I would be interested to read the quote.

Here’s what Obama said in a videotaped message announcing his decision:

“It’s not an easy decision, and especially because I support a robust system of public financing of elections. But the public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken, and we face opponents who’ve become masters at gaming this broken system. John McCain’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are fueled by contributions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs. And we’ve already seen that he’s not going to stop the smears and attacks from his allies running so-called 527 groups, who will spend millions and millions of dollars in unlimited donations.“

I fully support and understand Obama’s decision.  Just this morning he has James Dobson attacking him.  Next month I see the clowns who wrote “John Kerry: Unfit for Command” have an Obama smear book coming out.  Obama will need every bit of money he can raise to defend himself against this garbage.

Don’t like it?  Oh well.  You’re probably not one of the 258,000 small donors who have given money to him this year anyway.

Keep your fingers crossed, McCainiacs!  You can still hope for a terrorist attack in the next month or two to boost your candidate’s chances in November.  LOL.

jVA,
“Johnny did it, so it’s OK if I do it.“ is an adult excuse? That is the excuse that Obama used.
Saying “the system is broken anyway” after you have signed a pledge to use “the system” if your opponent agrees is an adult excuse?
I’m a father, grandfather, great grandfather; I’ve heard a lot of excuses from children & adults, I know a childish excuse when I hear one.
I may have mistaken a member of the city council for the mayor of San Francisco, my bad. I do know that it was a woman sitting in front of cameras, saying that the U.S. Navy was not wanted in San Francisco.
There were hundreds of protester mobbing that recruiting station, Code Pink was there. The city gave them a reserved parking space across the street from the station. There were also counter-protesters.
I could vote for Obama, he’s not an ogre, but I’d have to see some change.

“Obama also used childish excuses for changing his tune. “

Such as?

You are the absolute KING of making these kinds of statements, but never seem to be able to back them up with any kind of fact.  Please share with us a list of all the childish excuses Obama has used for backing off of public financing.

I think he’s being pretty straightforward about it.  Its better to go into the election season with $300 million in your war chest than $85 million.  Childish?  Hardly.

Key words there Godsaveus are “almost dying”.  We need to know who John’s running mate is before committing to voting for him as Mr. McCain may not be able to finish his term of office, either physically or mentally.

jVA,
Almost any lady will tell you that it is her mind & she can change it as often as she pleases, but Obama signed a pledge.
Obama also used childish excuses for changing his tune. I never accepted. “Well Johnny did it.“ from my children & I will not accept it from Obama.
If you know the car has four bald tires & no brakes, what does it say about you,
if you are willing to get in and drive it when you have other means?
Grant, mongoose,
If Republicans or others had wanted to save that $85 million, they wouldn’t have checked that box on their federal tax returns.

Let’s see, Obama can work with $300 million worth of private invididual donations or $85 million worth of public tax money…  What kind of idiot do you think he is?

I feel really bad that willow703 is so concerned about Obama being a man of his word unlike John McCain who never changes his mind on anything:

- In 1999, McCain supported the drilling moratorium, and he scolded the “special interests in Washington” that sought offshore drilling leases. In 2008?  Lift the ban, says McCain!

- McCain called Jerry Falwell “an agent of intolerance” in 2002.  Apparantly didn’t feel the same way while seeking the GOP nomination.

- McCain was against Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy before he was for them.

- McCain supported a major campaign-finance reform measure that bore his name. Later abandoned his own legislation.

- McCain used to be against torture, before he went along with the President and was for it.

- McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it.

- McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he’s pro-ethanol.

- McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.

I could post this stuff all day.  I mean, has the anti-illegal crowd here read what McCain was saying about immigrant amnesty and guest worker programs as recently as 2005???  He’s sure not saying the same stuff now…

Barak H. Obama need the $300,000,0000 from moveon.org plus the 240 millions from his supporters plus the whole media bias, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, PBS Hollywood, Washington Post and most of the newspapers   to beat the old , unenergetic and almost dying John McCain. It is shocking, and laughable. Change, Change, Change.

Whaat? Republicans are angry because Sen. Obama wants to save them $85 million by not accepting public funds in his run for the presidency? I thought the GOP favored fiscal responsibility, but I guess not.
