I took my dad, a Navy veteran, to the Veterans Day Concert presented by the U.S. Air Force Band at Metz School. It was spiritually uplifting and inspired deep patriotism, which became most obvious
when veterans and their families stood up to sing the various military hymns as they were played. My dad, who has dementia, sang every word of the National Anthem with such gusto, it really touched
me. Some things can never be forgotten!
On the way home, I pondered how precious our nation and liberty are, and how we often take them, and those who fought to preserve them, for granted. I hope that such displays of patriotism will
continue, and that perhaps the “Spirit of America” program that used to be held at the Verizon Center, will return to the Washington, D.C., area.
Our country may be imperfect because human beings are imperfect, but we have so many blessings to be thankful for, beginning with the inalienable rights we have received from, not man, but the hand of
God.
Thanks to all those who sponsored this concert, including our community newspaper, the News & Messenger.
