I find it upsetting that some churches in our county are demanding that taxpayers support illegal aliens. These churches should lose their tax exemption. Aiding and abetting illegal aliens is against the law. Why are these churches rebelling against the laws of our country?

To PCmom and Cobra;
If either of you truly believe and have proof that the churches are violating some law, then I suggest you file a sworn affadavit with the Dept. of Justice setting forth the facts. PCmom can render a legal decison on how the churches are violating the Constitution.—WQhether you agree or dislike it, the faact is churches do - and have always - lobbied legislaturesw, at local, state, and fed levels. The Catholic church of Arlongton each year sends its “shopping list” on legislation to the GA.  Delarshall brings its dogma to the GA also.—If churches must follow the “law of the land” and if there is separation of church and state, it appears there is a contradiction here. What laws of the land peertain to churches, other than tax exemptions? You must be confused with communist states, like China.  Cobra, if you are unhappy with your church (you brough uo the Catholic church), then you can always leave it, and you can stop giving money.  You can always talk to the clergy to convince them to changed their ways and fol.low your dogma and beliefs.  By the way, does your church take in sinners, and must they be US citizens, including prisoners, druggies, alcoholics, poor, etc.  Or do you do some sort of “ethnic cleansing”? I’m curious what you think a church should spend its money on. Personally, I think churches should be taxed. They all claim to heal, feed, help, etc., but when the problem gets big they ask when the govt is going to do something? It’s like big business seeking taxpayer help and bailouts. So many people just go to church to be seen and they hold a position in the community that requires it. In summary, my belief that churches are “infested” is supported by your postings.

As a member of the Roman Catholic Church, I do believe that for Jesus Christ there is not deference between legal and illegal. However, I also believe in his words “My kingdom is not in this world” and “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar”. Priest should not be involved in political matters; their jobs are teaching the words of Jesus Christ and teach the respect to our laws.

Seems like everyone needs a little civic lesson!  The Constitution was written, and Thomas Jefferson insisted, that there be a separation of church and state.  So what does that mean?  Does that mean that churches should stay out of the political fray over issues being debated?  I think SO.  It seems like both sides of the aisle (govt and church) are trying to cross into other’s space, and that is just plain wrong.  Leaders of both sides should NOT include either religious or political beliefs unless that is the institution they are representing.  To do otherwise is totally unconstitutional and offensive to those who don’t feel the same way.

Phdee,
your name calling is getting a bit rediculous. If you can not respond with a rational argument then stay off the site. There is absolutely nothing bigoted about stating ones position. The Catholic Church as well as all other denominations must follow the law of the land. When we place our tidings in the plate each week we expect that money to be spent wisely and within the law. We do not want it spent on those that do not respect the laws of the land. We do not want our Church to become a sanctuary for illegal immigrants who have had their day in court and were ordered to leave the US. We do not want it spent on settling law suits for Preists who harm children.

As a member of an “aiding & abetting” church, I agree with Mr. Neal. It is one thing to offer food to a starving individual and quite another to encourage illegal behavior and thwarting the rule of law. Jesus, Mary & Joseph were subject to the law and traveled for a census. Christ uttered, “render unto Ceasar”. It is false charity to encourage anyone to continue their error. If they are so concerned about the homeland of these people not providing for their needs, then they should travel to that country to improve it.

You don’t understand the function and role of a church. A church can lobby legislators - goes on all the time. You offer no reason why a church should lose tax exemption.  It appears that it is because you, as a bigot, don’t like their work, and they should be punished.
