On Sept. 18, Gerry Connolly and Keith Fimian, candidates for the House of Representatives from the 11th Congressional District, held a debate at the Montclair Country Club under the auspices of the
Committee of 100. Gerry Connolly won.
Throughout the debate Gerry Connolly demonstrated a thorough understanding of and reasonable, practical approaches to both national issues and the concerns of the residents of the 11th District.
The debate covered a wide range of subjects including foreign policy, the national economy, the transportation problems in Northern Virginia, the need for quality education, the impacts of illegal
immigration and Connolly’s record as first a member and then chairman of the Fairfax Board of County Supervisors. Gerry Connolly, relaxed and personable, showed a command of each and every issue.
In answering the debate questions, Gerry Connolly proved that he is extremely knowledgeable, that he has broad experience, that he wants sensible, workable solutions to the problems facing America
and the 11th District, and that he is motivated by a desire for public service rather than by political ambition.
Keith Fimian, who does have a record of success in the business world, failed to demonstrate that he is prepared or able to serve effectively in Congress.
Several times, struggling for answers to the debate questions, Fimian repeated a stock statement having to do with business planning and preparation whether it fitted the question or not.
At one point, he even seemed to forget where in this standard statement he was. He repeatedly tried to claim that Connolly, rather than the national economy, was somehow responsible for the projected
reduction in tax revenue for Fairfax County in the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009. At times somewhat stiff, Fimian did not show broad knowledge of or experience applicable to national issues or 11th
District concerns.
Clearly, it was a great evening for Gerry Connolly. He looks like he will be a winner on Capitol Hill too.

Ray,
The weed you have been smoking is affecting your sense of judgment and reality.

See do right, that’s what makes you a Kool-Aid drinker. Palin said she PUT the jet on eBay, leading us to believe she SOLD the jet on eBay. Befuddled McCain repeated the story, but embellished it to her SELLING the jet on eBay. Which is the bumper sticker slogan Republicans want you to believe.
The truth is Palin placed the jet on eBay, with a minimum price, and the jet did not sell. Palin took the jet off eBay and sold it to an Alaskan developer - at a loss - that had made substantial contributions to her election campaign.
And that my friend, is the true rest of the story.

Mr. Williams,
Palin did sell the jet on ebay. What makes you think that was a lie?

Lying may just be part of being a politician. Such as “I sold the jet plane on eBay” or “I said thanks but no thanks to the bridge” (but kept all the money) or I can see Russia from my kitchen table. I know these are not accurate quotes, but you get the drift.

Huh? I was at that debate, too. As far as I know, no one received a blue ribbon.

Glad I don’t live in the 11th. You guys are gluttons for punishment. You reap what you sow.

Connolly is a seasoned politician when it comes to lying to the American taxpayer. How can Connoly make the claim that gang violence has decreased in Fairfax County, when members of the Fairfax County police department have stated that it has risen over the last year? Crime has increased in Fairfax County by 20%, but yet, Connolly claims that there has been a 32% drop in gang violence. How can this be?
So yes, Connolly is more qualified than Sarah Palin as a politician when it comes to lying to the the residents of Fairfax County. This habitual lying won’t change if he is elected to Congress. He will fit right in with the rest of Congress.

Funny, but Gerry Connolly is actually more qualified than Sarah Palin. Connolly may preside over a larger population, greater budget and larger school district than Palin. Hummmmm.
