Demeaning campaign does little for nation

This political campaign is comparable to “mud wrestling.” Except, mud wrestling” is cleaner. Never have I seen a campaign as mean, cruel and ugly. And, I have seen many. The attacks on the
candidates have shown no mercy on their feelings, or their families’ feelings. How it must hurt to be compared to a pig! How it must hurt to have ones’ family attacked, to suffer malicious hints and
innuendoes!

How demeaning it must be to have one’s religion and one’s ministers involved in this campaign! This campaign is not fair and balanced in the news media. I’ve ceased reading about any of it. Hopefully, I
can glean some information from the candidates themselves. How would they serve their time in office. What decisions would they make for the country and its people.

We are living in a time of turmoil and danger, in a time of trials and tribulations for our people, both internally and internationally. There are huge responsibilities the elected will face. What difference does
it make how many houses one has? After all, this has been a land of opportunity.

What we need today is to come together as one people and to judge the candidates for their leadership qualifications. Forget the snide remarks and show respect for all of the people who are trying to
make this a better place. I’m sure that it is not easy for them to carry on amidst the remarks and accusations. We are none of us perfect. We all have our problems. We all wish we could go back in the
past and redo some things. We are all human. So what we, including the candidates, must do is to do the best we can. Please, let us be kind to one another.

Bless our country and our people!

The only real question to ask is “are we better off today than we were 8 years ago?“. For most of us, the answer is NO. While we may have skirted foreclosure, our neighborhoods are littered with foreclosed homes, our 401k values are tanking and gas is zooming back towards $4/gallon.

We have the highest unemployment rate and the lowest job creation rate in some 17 years, our banks are being bailed out by the Chinese and Japanese. President Bush is pushing for a Trillion dollar combined bailout of various financial institutions with of course, no oversight recommended.

Internationaly, we are bogged down in an invasion that never should have been. 4,500 troops lost, tens of thousands wounded or affected by stress. Military families shattered by repeated extended tours - AND we still have no idea where Bin Ladin is and the Taliban - who attacked us - grows stronger.

The Mexican border remains wide open and after the glossy 8x10 photo opportunity by Mr. Bush turning the first shovel of dirt, the fence remains unbuilt and funds pulled.

Our personal wealth is decreasing, jobs are being sent overseas, new jobs not created, corporations bailed out with tax dollars and Golden Parachutes for the CEOs, no - we are not better off today than 8 years ago.

The mega-millionaires Bush and McCain don’t feel our pain because they are above all this. McCain with his 7 homes and 13 cars feels the economy is still sound. I guess so. His running mate that bills the state of Alaska for nights spent IN HER OWN HOME also does not understand the day-to-day fears and uncertainty we face for our families.

America simply cannot afford 4 more years of the policies of the Bush Administration. Vote Democratic November 4th for a new direction.

Well stated Hattie…It’s ridiculous in any election how much time is paid to insignificant issues that have nothing to do with a person plan or ability to resolve the issues at hand.

I agree, Ms. Kahn—things have gotten pretty bad.  Somehow, we’ve confused “minutia” with “issues” to the extent that every sneeze or out-of-place comment is guaranteed its 15 minutes of fame.  Unthinkable.

Perhaps things will change for the better someday…hopefully before the type of campaigning you describe destroys the electoral process.

Karl Rove and the Republican Swift Boat Veterans started the viscious mud slinging and it is up to the Republican leadership to call off the dogs.  While Senator Obama has tried to run a clean campaign, he must defend himself against attack after attack lead by the Bush political machine that surrounds him. If McCain can call off his dogs, I’m sure the Obama camp will respond in kind.

On a side note, I proposed an online Quarter Jar for those of us that can’t keep our comments civil.  There were no backers ....
