Thank you for your Feb. 3 article exposing the “Lobbyists largess to legislators.” I was thoroughly disgusted with the remarks of Sen. Kenneth W. Stolle, R-Virginia Beach and his response to reporters’ saying, “...quite frankly i have a hard time telling the sheriffs, no, I’m not going hunting with you.”
Even more disgusting was Sen. Thomas K. Norment, R-James City, who said, “Frankly I’m offended you would ask me that question.” “If you think I’m going to be influenced by a hunting trip, then I am disappointed in your professionalism.”
Quite frankly, as one of those he represents, I am disappointed in his and Senator Stolle’s professionalism. Their audacity is exceeded only by their feigned ignorance of the influence peddling of lobbyists. Do they think lobbyists lavish gifts on them because they like them? Do they not understand that they did the same for the legislators who preceded them and will do so for those who replace them? How arrogant and ignorant can they get? I, for one, question their integrity and their ability to govern. I will be happy for the day when this practice is outlawed and the Sheriffs’ Association and other lobbyists can give their money to more noble causes.
