Do some research on the SPLC

Mr. Charest, I have a question for you: Did you wife come here legally or illegally? I am sure that Mr. Letiecq and others who share his opinions are all for immigration; they are against illegal immigration.
Why can’t you and others who share your beliefs understand that?

And maybe you should do some research on the Southern Poverty Law Center. Here is a fact for you: “with SPLC’s highly elastic standards, anyone and any group that dares speak out against illegal
immigration is eligible to be condemned” While you were on their Web site did you notice that the SPLC has now posted a vicious anti anti-immigrant screed directed at legal immigrants from Russia.
(See it at “The Latvian Connection: West Coast Anti-Gay Movement on the March,” by Casey Sanchez in the Fall 2007 SPLC Intelligence Report)

Or maybe you should read this report about SPLC: “Racist Hate in US at ‘Staggering’ Levels, Report Says.”

It is by Randy Hall, a CNSNews.com staff writer/editor. It was published March 11, 2008.

What the SPLC publishes is their opinion, not facts!!!

Higginbottom, why don’t you and the other anti kooks drop the “legal” issue/allegation.  You folks just use that.  If that is not so, then why does construction, schools, health care, taxes, DUI, crime, day laborers, culture, etc etc etrc keep popping up when you’re hemmed into a corner.  Accept the bigot and racist tag that accurately describes you and get on with life.

Cynthia,
Yes my wife is a “legal” immigrant, and we paid dearly in months of effort and money spent to get her visa legally.  But for all the effort we expended, since living here in Dale City, she - and by extension myself, have been treated with hostility and official harassement by reason of Speaking-English-With-An-Accent.  The incidents experienced here did not happen in our former home state of Mississippi, and the hostile environment didn’t develop here by “accident.“.
As a native New Yorker, and former long-time resident of Mississippi, I have my own perspective on the SPLC - and it’s apparently very different than yours.

I agree with you Mr. Jacobson that there are some industries that require foreign workers but we must make sure that US Citizens have a chance at those jobs first. We must make sure that they pay a fair wage to both Citizens and Immigrants who take those jobs. Problem is that most businesses get addicted to cheap labor and will not do the right thing. Recent article on Indian guest workers protesting in Missouri or Mississippi (sorry can’t remember exactly what state) over their slave like working conditions is a good example. I was proud of those people for speaking up for their rights.

Gary you want to just open the borders and let anyone come in. This isn’t the 1700’s, even in the 1800’s and early 1900’s immigrants had to be processed in the majority through Ellis Island. Or did you forget that?
Maybe we should do like Holland does before they allow anyone to immigrate there. You MUST know the language, you MUST accept their living standard. This can be hard for some muslims moving to Holland since they are so very liberal. They also must sign that they will obey the rules of the country and not try to impose any of theirs.
As an English speaking country I see way too many signs in Spanish and I HATE pressing 1 for English. Diversity is a great thing but we are catering too much to one group.
We need to curb Hispanic illegals and raise immigration from other countries. There are plenty that would love to come here but they just can’t walk on water.
Lets compute the cost if wages are increased.. Wages are a SMALL part of the price of produce. If you pay $10 an hour and pick 200 fruit that’s $.05 each. If you DOUBLE the wages, that’s $.10 each. I think I can afford an extra $.05.

Illegal immigration is bad, but legal immigration is good, right? So let’s increase the number of legal immigrants. Then the “problem” (real or imagined) is solved!

Right on Cynthia,
Just Google the founder of SPLC Morris Dees. He is a piece of trash. As I wrote a few days ago, they are a money grabbing organization that gives little back to the cause they claim to represent. They have absolutely no credibility.

I guess the reason opponents of Help Hate Manassas don’t really believe Letiecq and other are for legal immigration is that their words don’t support their talk.  Their letters and comments often include hateful general remarks about ESOL, parking disputes, overcrowding, etc with no distinction between legal or illegal immigrants. Not every legal immigrant comes here fully adapted to our culture and language.  When presented with senseable ways to address their concerns such as tax collection, temporary documentation and drivers license they quickly run away or toss more miss-mash ideals onto the fire. They are not into problem solving, unless the solution - and only solution - is to send all 12 million back to their native country. This is a one-issue problem for them, with no intelligent discussion on areas such as the impact on our tax burden, crashing housing prices and the fact there are not enough Americans willing to fill these labor job at any price. You want to pay $3.00 for a fast food burger? Are you ready for $12 per head of lettuce?  Sensible people know with every problem there is a balance required to solve it. Help Hate Manassas does not show that restrain. Their tactics, unfortunately, more resemble Hitler’s approach of the “Jewish problem” than a group looking to resolve tax and overcrowding issues. When HHM shows a willingness to SOLVE the problem, sensible people may begin to listen.
