Don’t choose based on someone’s name

I read Sandi Teets letter (June 28) and have thought about it for a few days. The one part of the letter that stood out to me was this: “And Barack is a Jr., so the apple can’t fall far from the tree. If you
know what I mean.” No, I don’t know what you mean. Does it mean he is supposed to be a follower of Islam because he is has an Islamic name and is a “Junior.” My parents were Catholics and I went to
Catholic school until the tenth grade. I have not see the inside of a Catholic Church in over 30 years and have no plans to do so either. Many of us do not follow our parents’ choices in religious and
political beliefs and most particularly their “isms”: rascism, anti-semitism,anti-muslimism. Again I ask what exactly is that supposed posed to mean? It just seems to be a very blatant anti-Muslim
statement.

What’s in a name? By itself, nothing. A name is something bestowed upon us by our parents like many other things: noses, eyes, hair, body shape, propensities to alcoholism, high blood pressure, heart
disease, etc. Many people hate their names and use nicknames. While it is fun and interesting to investigate the roots of our names, should a person’s name be a factor in voting for them or not? No. We
all know what we want in a president and we should vote for the person who most closely matches those wants.  I believe my name does not define me, I define my name. And so it should be with our
candidates for president.

By the way, I am a long time breed rescue person and am very experienced with dogs. Their famed sixth sense deals with people, not weather.

Yes, they know when a storm is coming, but that comes from the change in barometric pressure prior to the storm. Most dogs who are fearful during thunderstorms are not afraid of lightning ... it is the
thunder that scares them.

To use Ms. Teets analogy, the last place they want to be is in a “wide open meadow” during a storm.

Choose your candidate based on how well he matches up with your positions, not on his name.

Cobra, you did ask me to list one legislative accomplishment of Obama’s. I gave you one, which, by the way, was successfully added onto the bill. Not just something vague or trivial, mind you, but something critical to national security with a reference to both bill number and a specific committee. You acknowledge this and then, in the next sentence, state that he has none. I am afraid that I am going to need a mathematical proof for your proposal that 1 = 0.

cobra,

I realize fact-checking isn’t a Conservative’s strength, so I’ll make it easy for you.  Go to:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obama

and you’ll be able to read his bio, complete with political career and achievements starting in the Illinois State legislature.

Oh, and by reading this you’ll also be able to learn that his name is “Barack Hussein Obama II,” and not “Barack Hussein Obama jr” as Ms. Teets claimed in her June 28 LTE titled “What’s in a presidential candidate’s name?” Wouldn’t be a big deal, except that the entire basis of her LTE was showing that Sen Obama’s name, including “jr,” made him unfit for President.

Come on Sammy B,
I ask for an accomplishment and you give me one bill that he introduced. As stated, there are none. I assume you’re an American Citizen and you have the right to vote for an empty suit but please be intellectually honest. He has zero accomplishments. As your beloved Bill Clinton stated, he has played the race card in this election and dared anyone to challenge him on the issues. If you challenge him you are viewed as a bigot or racist. Same old playbook from Liberals. Demonize your opponent and stay away from the issues. I really don’t care if he wins. The US will be in a serious down turn for the next few years and I’d like the Democrats to be in power to take the blame. They have controlled both the House & Senate for two years and what do they have to show for it? Gas prices that are sky rocketing and they just want to talk about alternative fuels and taking back profits for a legal American Business. Now that is some true leadership my friend.

Let’s see Cobra. Last month Sen. Obama introduced a provision to S. 864, an update to the 1954 Atomic Energy Act, requiring the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, to enhance the tracking and accounting of spent nuclear fuel. This was done to correct a relaxation of guidelines done in 1988 when it was estimated that the chance of spent fuel being stolen was small. Since the rise of terrorism this has not been addressed, so in the past five years alone three plants have reported missing spent fuel. The work of Sen. Obama and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee might have stopped a radiological attack before it even begins.

Yawn ... let me know if anyone changes their minds on who their going to vote for. My bet is we could vote today and the outcome would be no different than in November. I do like the power of the lightning bolt though ...

Not sure why Ms Teets went through the trouble of writing that opinion when she could have asked just one question of the readers of this paper. That question is, “Please give me one legislative accomplishment of Senator Obama”? Got an answer for that Sammy B? If so then you have more insight then all the people doing the town halls on Fox and CNN. They have yet to come up with an answer to that question.

In 2006, Obama took a trip to Kenya in order to visit and provide political support to Raila Odinga . In 2008 Barak Obama interrupted his New Hampshire campaigning to speak by phone with Odinga, his cousin in a time that Kenya was involve in a bloody political war He did not speak with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki the president elected.
Who is Odinga? Odinga is Obama’s cousin. Odinga and Obama are from the same Kenyan Luo tribe. Odinga supporters are responsible burning Christians alive, trapped inside churches .What he believes is in this document.

Thank you Ms. Marcus. With the time Ms. Teets spent doing name research for her last letter she could have been looking over http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/ and http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ like an intelligent voter.
