Barack Obama, his wife, Michelle and their two children are human beings that have hearts that pump at 60 beats a minute. The recent New Yorker front-cover cartoon, characterizing Barack and his wife
as Moslem terrorists is a media “terrorist attack” on a smart Afro-American family.
John McCain’s campaign has issued a sharp criticism of this front-cover cartoon. I agree.
I expressed my concerns to two good friends: one a liberal Democrat and another a conservative Republican. The liberal is a former Freedom Rider who was spat upon in Oxford Mississippi. He found the
cartoon to be tasteless, rude and vulgar. The conservative said that many whites consider this magazine a niche publication and would never read it. Unfortunately, he said, they will look at the cover and
make a judgment without reading the favorable article inside. He also said that The New Yorker needs to realize its audience extends beyond Manhattan.

I found the intention of the cartoon to be a nice bit of facetious response to all the conspiratorial nonsense coming from people who want to attack Obama but lack the brain power argue about matters of executive policy. Notice that I said, “intent.” The execution was rather disgusting.
