Don’t undermine your own resolution

I expected interest groups that aide illegal behavior to use the county’s budget deliberations to undermine support for the illegal alien enforcement initiative, but I did not expect members of the County Board of Supervisors to join them.
The fact is the initiative is a success and has already paid for itself, even using the bloated figures that Chief Charlie “kicking & screaming” Deane uses in his transparent attempts to discourage the board from enforcing the law.
A few weeks ago, PWC schools announced an ‘unanticipated’ drop in enrollment of 600 students. The savings from this reduction in enrollment — which just happened to coincide with the implementation of the board’s enforcement policy — was $6 million, which pays for the anti-illegal enforcement program.
As the illegal community responds to the fact that PWC no longer tolerates illegal immigration, the self-deportation process will continue, resulting in lower school enrollment figures; reduced demand for free health care at county clinics and other reductions in demand for county services — meaning additional savings.
As for the county’s damaged reputation among the business community, this makes me laugh. Businesses that depend on a customer base that exists because of illegal behavior may indeed experience economic setbacks, just as pawn shops that fence burglarized goods feel the pinch when the police step up burglary enforcement. But so what? Businesses that target citizens and don’t exploit employees are having no problems with the program.
Our reputation is probably suffering among members of the radical, far left, socialist and open borders community, but I could care less. And if a company decides not to locate to PWC because it will be difficult to hire an underclass of exploited workers, I say good riddance.
The board did the right thing when it unanimously voted in favor of implementation of the illegal alien enforcement initiative. I paid over $5,000 in property taxes in PWC last year. I will probably pay about the same this year. I expect that money to be used wisely and enforcing the law should be a top priority.

By the way folks ESOL has dropped about 800 students instead of 600 and the number continues to rise. Numbers have been dropping since the first proposal of the Resolution and especially after it was passed, and it involves Manassas if only because they are surrounded by PWC. Everybody knows now that 9500 Liberty is a liberal sham org. supported by the Anti-BVBL and pro illegal immigrant crowd. Since Mar. 3 it appears life has gotten more pleasant in the community as illegals are leaving or going to jail. Can’t wait for next election cycle to vote out Mr. Principi and Mr. Nohe. Two big illegal coddlers. Chris Cummings

“Mr. Shannon,
If you read the article you surely didn’t miss the part about the greater drop in ESL students in the City of Manassas with no resolution.“
The City of Manassas is surrounded by PWC. This proves the powerful effect of perception of what the resolution intends and a community standing together to improve itself. Our resolve is clear.

you guys are so funny i try not to comment, but alas, i have to. JOB LOSS is the main reason people are leaving the county, and any reduction in ESOL has to include LEGAL immigrants as well as illegals, so how do you account for the Resolution being the factor? When the construction jobs come back, the workforce will come back, and the budget costs will return also. Then, because we are on a one-track program the problems will remain the same and we’ll be right back where we started from. enjoy your 9 months of smugness then back to reality.

Manassas City had greater percentage loss of ESOL students and they didn’t have the resolution. Plus our property values have dropped further then surrounding counties. Some are twisting these stats to try and force them to fit their position.

Blue-doggette,
You certainly are no rocket scientist, and lack reading comprehension skills as well. I wasn’t debating the budget in my comment, it would be a waste of my time debating with individuals like yourself who are one-sided in their argument. Adios

The savings are there on many levels and through many services in the County. I am sorry denying that the savings are not there does not make it so.

blue_doggette doesn’t know what she’s talking about. The $6 million figure is not mine, it came from a story in the Examiner and I assume the reporter got the amount from the PWC school system.
I’m not sure what constitutes a “budget wizard” but I can assure blue_doggette that she is not included in the count.

The ‘savings’ with the ESOL program is nonexistent. 600 kids divided by 84 schools is a little more than 7 kids per school. Since salaries make up the great proportion of expense and the teachers are under contract, there was no change or reduction in staff this past year. We do not know that these 600 or their replacements won’t be back next year, so don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
Neither ‘do the right thing’ nor Mr. Shannon sound like they are budget wizards.

Mr. Shannon,
Our county’s illegal immigrant resolution is being copied throughout the United States. Americans are saying “enough is enough!“
The radical left has no argument so they perpetrate through propaganda that our resolution is “Anti-Immigrant.“
During citizen’s time, watch the theatrics that has taken place as the illegal immigrant sympathizers parade through the doors of the Chamber in the McCoart Bldg, and are videotaped by Eric Byler(9500 Liberty) as they approach the podium. Eric himself spoke during citizens time, and attempted to come across as harmless. Meanwhile, he is calling anyone who supports the Resolution as “racist” on the blogs. So much for fair and balanced reporting on his part. Some of our Board of Supervisors have been “hoodwinked” by these folks.
Citizens like yourself who understand the dynamics of what is going on, out number the anti-resolution crowd. No matter how much propaganda is put out there in regards to illegal immigration,
law abiding citizens will always level the playing field.
