Good gosh, give it a rest. Your editorials are getting sillier by the day. I rarely write these letters, but the latest in a long line of vitriolic editorials (“Stand up before it’s too late,” April 7) by the Potomac
News prompted me to pick up my pen.
Those of us in the “quiet majority” out here don’t need your lectures, especially when they exhibit an intentional ignorance of the facts just to make your point.
We know the illegal immigration issue is not akin to the Nazis vs. the Jews or Civil Rights vs. Jim Crow, despite your best efforts to characterize it as such.
The bitterness and anger in your words are directed at Mr. Stewart and Mr. Stirrup because they actually accomplished what most folks in the county and across the nation had only talked about and
hoped for — enforcement of the law.
You have gone so far over the top with your extremist views that I am now convinced a majority of the Potomac News editorial staff secretly pine for open borders.
Finally, since you dipped into the Greek classics for your comparison of Mr. Stewart to Narcissus, then let me suggest the Potomac News stop acting like it was the Oracle at Delphi.

I have a question for you posters, why isn’t a fence being built in the north border? is it because “illegal immigrants only come from the south? what makes you think that only hispanics are illegal in this country? they might make the majority but what about people from many other countries? how do we call them? uninvited guests? you people need to blame your county government for your misseries and stop the agression toward the Hispanic community, if we want every “illegal” out of this country please include everyone else not just one race, ‘cause if we don’t, many legal residents and citizens will be prosecuted then PWC will not have the millions to pay for lawsuits. the police chief is absolutely right, you’ll should put him in place and get rid of C. Steward.

cobra,
You read, but you don’t understand. I have no problem with Mr. Stewart & Mr. Stirrup enforcing the laws that existed. I didn’t have a dog in that election, since I don’t live in the county. I do have a dog in the fight to keep this commonwealth & this country secure. Mr. Stewart & Mr. Stirrup are not doing that by copying existing law for the sole purpose of their own glorification. Instead of quietly going about their job, they blew their own horns with a tune they stole from someone else. I remember riding Greyhound in the 50s, 60s, & 70s in the southwest and having local police officers ask me, and every other passenger, for place of birth. They didn’t need to write local laws for that & they didn’t. Now it seems that many local officials think they were elected to plagiarize and to reinvent their positions. They think they are “leaders”. They are not, they are merely temporary “employees” of the people, in a government by, & for the people.
The attention brought upon Prince William County by Mr. Stewart & Mr. Stirrup is undue, because it didn’t have to be, & it is unfair, because the “good” people of Prince William County been maligned by many of those reacting to the unnecessary actions & words of the not-so-good; who only rant when there is need for reason, who, instead of lighting a candle, only curse the darkness, & who, when the job has been, do it again, & claim sole credit.

Willow703,
regardless of your military service, you will not get a free pass to make comments about the current PWBOS who were elected fair and square in an open election. We would expect a retired Army Officer to defend this country at all costs and not cry foul when you loose elections. Corey Stewart and John Stirrup won. I am sorry you can not accept that. Guess you need to have your candidate run a better campaign next time. The Federal Government has no intention of enforcing current immigration laws as they are all elitist and live in gated communities with very little diversity. But they want us to absorb all the illegal immigrants into our communities. We said hell no in Manassas and we want them gone. Tired of reading the headlines that immigrants are fearful. If you are legal you have nothing to fear. If illegal then go the hell home and respect the laws of the land. And while your in Mexico, please march in the streets there demanding your rights. We are sick of this in our country.

cobra,
Let’s talk about ignorance.
No law is sufficient if it is not enforced.
I am in full support of enforcing existing
law so long as that enforcement is not negated by failure to secure our borders.
That is the situation our nation faces and has faced for more than 30 years. I’m a retired Army Sergeant with 2 tours in Vietnam. What have you done that gives you the right to call me a traitor?

Willow703,
Welcome to the Traitor club. Just added your name. “EXISTING LAW WAS SUFFICIENT”. Talk about ignorant. Yes it was sufficient to allow some 15 million foreigners to come and stay here illegally and drain the coffers of small town America. I work with many people from surrounding jurisdictions and they wish their County would follow Prince Williams lead. Frederick Maryland was in the news this morning about adopting the same laws. We will prevail and you and your ilk will be left crying. PW County will gain residents due to this resolution and those residents will be law abiding citizens vice law breaking foreigners.

What Mr. Stewart & Stirrup accomplished was not “enforcement of the law”, but creation of new local law when existing federal law was sufficient.
Did they do this for political purposes or because they were ignorant? Either way, they did not do the people of Prince William County any favors. The people of the county have every right to be angry & bitter toward Mr. Stewart & Stirrup for the undue & unfair attention they have brought upon the county.
