Everyone wants to be in control

The presidential election is nearing. Not only do I read and observe everyone being divided on very important issues facing our country, but I pay close attention to individuals and groups of individuals
trying to control the way other people think.

It’s amazing how many folks believe that if you do not agree with them on an issue, you’re either naive, simple minded or just plain stupid. Displaying a “it’s their way or the highway” kind of attitude
doesn’t get matters solved.

I personally couldn’t imagine if every single soul on this planet thought the same way. God Bless America for being a diverse, free society that welcomes ALL visitors and assist in granting citizenship to
those who wish citizenship. Talk about CHANGE.

What type of change are we all wanting to take place in America? Is it right for America to cater to one group of citizens? Should America change her way of life or let her English language become
second place?

Why is it that when an American has a dear desire to defend and protect their country, they are considered extremists or anti something?

America is America because she shared her land with everyone; to my knowledge, no other country, that I’m familiar with on this earth is as charitable and open as America.

Although the federal government had some good intentions, they should have foreseen in the ‘70s that some of their programs alarmed disaster. It’s a shame how many folks depend on federally
controlled systems that waste most of their lives. CHANGE we say.

We know, for one, we have to deal with the problems we already have and not let them go further. This bail out money should go to the people who lost and are losing their homes — especially to our
veterans facing hard times, to assist with unemployment and then give the left overs to some of the pathetic financial institutions.

People, on Nov. 4, vote with logic for the team that will address the major problems facing our nation and who will be fair and balanced. Don‘t vote based on race, gender, religion or political affiliation. I
trust we will come together as a nation and do what’s right.

May God always bless America!

Well, we’re still employed if that is the Republican definition of “doing well” under the Bush Administration.

Working for 2/3 normal income is not my definition of “doing well” though.

I guess we’re not doing poorly until we’re unemployed and have lost our homes, cars and live in cardboard boxes.

I too hope that we can come together and do what’s right.

We are (hopefully) coming to the end of 12 years of Republican “leadership” in the Congress and White House. In this time we have watched Republican leadership squander America’s wealth and reputation.

Republicans inherited a budget surplus and then quickly ran up the largest debt in US history…larger than that of all previous US administrations combined…and then they doubled it. A former head of GAO recently stated that every household in America is now in debt to the tune of $480,000.

Republican leaders grossly exaggerated very flimsy intelligence and essentially lied America into a war against a country that posed no national security threat. They so terribly botched the occupation that we find ourselves in a war that has lasted longer and cost more than World War II, with no end in sight.

Republicans leadership established a secret chain of black-site prisons in former communist countries to implement a policy of torture. This reprehensible and criminal practice has placed our great nation on the same list as long-standing human rights abusers such as North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Multiple sources have confirmed that Republican leaders discussed specific acts of torture in the White House.

Republican leaders turned their backs on the people of New Orleans and the gulf coast after hurricane Katrina, enjoying their vacation and denying what Americans witnessed 24/7, day after day on the news. When cornered with their own incompetence and failure to act they lashed out in a feeble attempt to blame local officials.

This new generation of Republican leaders inherited Ronald Reagan’s “shining city on a hill” and kicked it into a ditch. And now they want four more years.

They’ve described themselves a “Mavericks” and have promised to bring change to America. They claim to be bipartisan leaders who can reach across the aisle and get things done. But now as polls clearly show that Americans are not sold on their ideas and their ideology they are turning their “Straight Talk Express” into a “Hate Talk Express”.

They are trying to scare us into believing that Obama is some kind of terrorist, or that his lack of experience and judgement will be dangerous for America. Their politics of fear are the last desperate act of an ideology that’s as bankrupt as Wall Street, and Americans aren’t buying it.

The tide is turning as more and more Americans are coming to realize that Obama is exactly the kind of change that America needs.

And do you suppose Obama will be able to work miracles with some of the self-interested dinosaurs who have been sitting in Congress and the Senate for decades? Gee, haven’t the Dems been in control now for a couple of years? After eight years of Democrat Clinton, what did we get? Meekness in the face of ever-bolder terrorist attacks, a flubbed opportunity to capture bin Laden, scandal in the White House, a failed attempt to reform healthcare—gosh, I could go on and on.
By your own admission, you and your employees seem to be doing well. So are you worse off? It sounds like not.

Well, ray, I’m sure you just can’t wait to foot the bill for Obama’s health care plan, just the tip of the iceberg of a wave of spending on a vast array of social programs. The middle class is sucking up the cost of the bailout, and the middle class will bear the cost of his social spending. Oh, wait a minute, by Obama’s definition, I’m actually “wealthy.“ If I want to improve my standard of living, I guess I can just inflate my tires a little more and wait in a long line for my govvie-controlled and rationed healthcare.

Just what we need, some out-of-touch, professorial idiot using us as lab rats in the great liberal social engineering project, to “fundamentally change” our great country, the new talking point for those—like you, ray—who “love to hate” our country.

IL, with the last round of tax cuts my take home pay went up about $6.00 per week. No, I did not go crazy with that extra $24 per month. If $6 is meant to spur the economy, we need a new plan.

You can’t borrow your way to wealth.

Actually IL, what we need is a leader that says they are going to RAISE taxes - for the simple principle that we can’t continue to spend more than we earn.

As anonmom points out, people get into trouble by living above their means and this applies to the government also.

You want to invade Iraq? Ok, find the $10 billion a month to pay for it. You want tax cuts for the rich? Ok, supplement the losses with another income source. I again point out mega-rich Dick Cheney has not created a single job with his $300,000 in tax savings in the first tax cut alone.

The interest on the money we borrow from China is the same as a tax increase.  We have less tax dollars to spend on service due to interest debt, so we borrow more to pay our bills, therefore increase our debt and increase the need for tax dollars to fund that debt.

The government has been just like the American families that refinanced their homes every time the value went up $50k. Believing the increase value would always be there for next time.

I’ll be kind to President Bush here, but he has been a college kid with a credit card for the past eight years charging everything from CDs to pizza parties to video games with no regard to the monthly statement.  Someone has to pay the Government Express Gold Card and right now that is us and the American economy.

Paint whatever picture you want, but the Buck did not Stop at the Oval Office during the Bush Administration.

I will just point out that even Obama admitted that if elected he might have to hold off on his tax increases since tax increases have a negative impact on the economy.  The Dems have been in control of Congress for the past two years.  They promised they were going to clean up the “swamp”.  Yet, they have failed to do so.

Ray, why don’t you listen to what your leader says.  Obama says we need to put aside our differences, the attacks, etc and work for the good of the Country.  Or, do you not believe in his rhetoric either?

Yea, that must be how it is. I hire illegals - always the pat answer for those that love to hate.

That would explain why my employees, one who has been with me for 20 years, two others 11 and 10 respectfully, own their own homes and have children in the public school system. Yea, I must hire illegal aliens.

Your key comment is actually “pay someone a living wage to do work no one needs now.“ with a focus on the work no one can AFFORD now, with the failed Bush Economy.

Again I ask, what are YOU doing to spur on the economy?  Nice to slam on the working heros of this country but we’ll see how long you sit among the nobility of this land if McCain gets elected and continues the Bush Administration policies he supports.

I am also sure the 150,000 people who the government reported losing their jobs last month were all illegals also. And those 6% that are unemployed now - all illegals right?

Whew, and the job losses on Wall Street and at major banks that are failing - wow, who knew illegals infiltrated the very financial structure of America.

Regarding postings, every hear of laptops and Blackberrys? A staple in the construction trade to increase productivity.

Spend your money and be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Ahh, let me guess. You employ people for “home improvement projects”? Now it’s clear, you hire illegal aliens at cheap wages to do your dirty work. And now with home building almost nonexistent and many of the illegals out of here thanks to the Rule of Law Resolution, you would actually have to pay someone a living wage to do work no one needs now.
How unfortunate for you, although you seem to have plenty of time to play pit bull on this website, don’t you? Nice try, but you’re full of it.

anonmom, it must be nice to have a cushy government job that deposits your paycheck each Friday whether you’ve produced anything worthwhile or not.

For those of us in the working sector, we feel the effects of the Bush economy daily. I have employees that count on consumers such as yourself spending money on home improvement projects so that they may earn a paycheck. No consumer spending, no paycheck. Not a hard concept to follow.

When the economy tanks, we tank along with it. Perhaps I should tell my employees they should not own homes or drive cars, or provide the basics in life such as a TV set or internet access so their children can do their homework “like the rich folks do”. Pork and Beans three times a day is good enough for blue collar workers.

It must be easy to sit in your Ivory Tower and look down on the masses and sneer, and perhaps this is why you are a Republican.

But please remember it was the working people who built your home, mow your grass, replaced your roof or installed new windows. It is working people that serve you at the restaurant, banks and grocery stores. Please do us all a favor and remind them each time you do business with them that they lack the entitlements of the frosty upperclass you belong to.

So anonmom, what are YOU doing to help out the economy? Got a roof replacement scheduled this fall? New windows on order? A new garage or basement remodel? Perhaps that big master bedroom addition with that Jacuzzi tub? Are you buying a new car to the salesman can earn a bit of commission? Certainly you are helping out and not huddling down and hording your wealth.

Please share your contributions towards spurring on the economy so other readers can take heart and spend their excessive consumer dollars also. Go out and refinance your home, draw out the equity and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND.

I’m happy you have prospered these past eight years with a soaring home value, new found wealth in the stock market and of course, your rock-solid government pension. You are among the Bush elite Republicans like to serve.

Not everyone can be so fortunate.
