Further embarrassment from a local nativist

Did you really have to publish the embarrassing story that Greg Letiecq (and the misnamed “Help Save Manassas” a euphemism for the KKK) has now been recognized by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a nativist?

PWC has enough image problems caused by the mismanagement of the illegal immigration issue.

This “award” just reinforces the perception PWC has been moved back to the late ‘50s and early ‘60s with respect to race relations. Let me be clear: Illegal immigrants have zero rights to any services at any level of government.

Illegal immigration has caused problems in PWC and something had to be done, but frankly, the issue was totally ignored for years before it conveniently became “the” campaign issue last July. The board jammed the resolution through. Well, I’m wondering what have we really accomplished? We’ve spent all but $3,000 of our “Contingency Reserve” which leaves no room for contingencies, otherwise known as “emergencies!”

That’s not quite fiscally responsible. I acknowledge we’ve shipped some 313 “illegal immigrants” to ICE since last July.

Sounds great.

But ICE won’t accept anyone for deportation unless the illegal has completed their sentence. So in truth, if 313 have been tried, convicted and completed their sentences ALREADY, in seven months, how bad were their crimes?

Could they be felonies? The sentences were less than a year. So have we either dropped or reduced charges? How else could we dispose of 313 “criminal aliens” that fast?

I think we are going to spend $25 million on what appears to be a crime wave of criminal alien misdemeanors.

I believe we need to examine the proposed spending and consequences of those actions far more deeply than the cursory manner in which it is being discussed now.

@raywilliams

Do you think for one second somehow making illegal aliens legal all of sudden is going to fix the black market for illegal labor?  Do you actually think employers that pick up their illegal labor at the 7-11’s are going to want to play by the rules because their illegal laborer now has a tax ID number?  If so, you may have spent to much time in the sun in Cancun and Cozumel.

The “enlightened” folks in their segregated communities don’t and won’t ever get it.  The only time they see the blight is when they leave their little enclaves on their way to Starbucks for their latte.

I have visited Mexico a number of times on just a Virginia drivers license. Both Cancun and Cozumel are nice places to visit during our winter months. No one has ever spat at me to speak Spanish or use Mexican Pesos, but welcomed both my English and American dollars.  Tightly controlled borders? I don’t think so.

Cobra:  Thank you for explaining the Rule of Law.  If I get it correctly, ALL must follow the laws as they are written in the books. The only exception of course would be President Bush, who can suspend the Constitution at his whim, but again, I digress.
Laws are created, challenged and changed every day. This is the job of the House and Senate and our own group down in Richmond.  My point is that it may make sense to amend the current laws as they are written to incorporate some type of documention procedure for illegal residents so that 1. we know who and where they are 2. we can process an income tax on their wages and 3. perhaps even add an Illegal Resident Tax to their withholdings to offset their cost of social burdens.
Now you can hoop, holler and name-call all you want, but the problem is not going away because you write elegant statements in the newspaper.  You may want the current laws enforced and support elected officials that promise to uphold them, but are you prepared to say that all laws on the books are now fixed in place for all time? Either we stay rooted in the 1950’s era of segregation or we accept the Civil Rights Act of an open society and therefore possibly progress into the Y2K era of Hispanic neighbors. Again, are you prepared to say Laws should not be fluid and must be chiseled in stone?

Hacenedb,
So let me make sure I understand your comment. As American Citizens, we are not allowed to take a position that those that come here illegally have broken not only the law of entry but the law that prohibits you from working in the US. I know you guys hate the Constitution but sorry, we have that right. Your position is that US Citizens are not allowed to form a group to further advance their cause. How about the group Mexicans without Borders (aka Mexicans without Laws). So it’s ok for illegal immigrants to form a group to further their cause but good old American Citizens are to shut up and sit down. Nice try. And let me advise Mr. Ray Williams on the true meaning of the rule of law. The rule of law, in its most basic form, is the principle that no one is above the law. The rule follows logically from the idea that truth, and therefore law, is based upon fundamental principles which can be discovered, but which cannot be created through an act of will. Obviously you have access to a computer so you can look it up for yourself in Wikipedia. So there you go Ray, no one is above the law including both legal & illegal immigrants. Just keep the naming calling coming. It provides great motivation for those of us who will continue to fight to rid this community of illegal immigrants. To bad Freddy Lopez did not understand its meaning. He will now have plenty of time to think about it while spending the next 27 months in the Federal Prison for defrauding the Federal Government. When will I read an opinion from those that feel bad for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have had their identity stolen by illegal immigrants just so they could work? I’ll be dead and gone before I read that story.

Why is it hate to want your borders secured. Name me one other country that has open boarders. Does Mexico, NO, they have very rigid rules coming into their country, anywhere in South America with open border, NO, anywhere in Africa, Europe, Asia, yada yada, No. Not every organization has to be voted on by the people, but we did elect the people that are now enforcing the law.

We must not allow ‘save Manassas”  or any other organized group to pressure our BOCS and to legislate for us. Once again, we did not elect them!

Would somebody please explain what this Rule of Law is/means?

I get confused every time I read those words.  Really.  Please explain it.

The BOCS, Letiecq, HSM, and other local hatemongers haveutterly destroyed the image and economy in PWC. PWC isd “an ugly place to live”. We lead in foreclosures - potential slums and ghettos,.  But this is helping to save Manassas, I guess.  A recession is here, and things are only going to get worse. Some cities and counties may eventually go belly up.  Brace yourselves.

John your a nice guy, but it sounds like your campaigning again, or lashing out like McCain for not winning the parties nomination. KKK? Racist? It almost sounds like you are getting ready to switch parties.

I would caution those that continue to label those that stand for the rule of law as racist. You undermine your cause every time you use that word. What a ridiculous analogy with comparing Help Save Manassas with the KKK. Why is it acceptable for illegal immigrants to march in our streets calling us every name in the book, but those such as Greg Letiecq who stand for the rule of law are labeled racist or nativist? Previous County Board Members sat back and did nothing about this problem which had been festering for some time. The current Board Members responded to the communities demands that something be done. John Gray and others would like you to think that the County’s budget short falls are due to funding of the crackdown on illegal immigrants. They will not acknowledge that many legal and illegal immigrants left due to the shortage of jobs associated with the construction boom. They could no longer rent out every room in the house to thousands of illegal’s who descended on PW County in the last 5 years. When their cash cow dried up, they just picked up and moved in the middle of the night. I have experienced that first hand in my own community. They will just move on to the next community to take from them what they took from us. Hey John, I guess we can hire what few illegals that remain to cut the grass at all the empty foreclosed homes in PW County that were abandoned by those wonderful people.
