I would like to read the requirements to become a columnist for the Potomac News.
You’ve obviously hit a new all-time record low with this pipsqueak, Gary what’s-his-name. His utter ignorance and stupidity is only surpassed by his complete lack of knowledge of what’s going on in the
USA. We have real people and real problems for our elected officials to consider and to solve — this guy has zero understanding of what’s happening. Get rid of him.

When the messenger repeatedly bears a message no one seems to want to hear, a bit of a backlash is understandable.
Basic First Amendment rights come into play here. Mr. Jacobsen has the right to express his opinion. We have the equal right to ignore it and seek truthful, cogent, and accurate analysis elsewhere.
Rather than infringe upon his rights to the detriment of our own, I suggest we look elsewhere than Mr. Jacobsen’s column for intelligent opinions, instead of supplying him with the attention in this forum that he seems to enjoy.

The requirements to become a columnist are quite simple. Be able to construct sentences, submit columns in a timely manner, and most importantly, ignite a spark which draws people to read your column - whether they like the message not. Columnists like Jacobsen draw readers, readers draw advertisers and advertisers create profit for the newspaper. You don’t like what Jacobsen writes? Then submit your own draft to show you can write, then produce week after week and then perhaps you to can be a newspaper columnist. We pay George W. Bush more to do a whole lot less.

Same old, same old. If you don’t like the message, attack the messenger.

Qualifications? You forgot to ask about Reichley, simpson, concannon, and several other Republican goons.
Get rid of hi? First, Jacobsen is one of the better columnists. It’s sad that PWC hsas so many hatemongers, racist, uneducated, and fascist-leaning people like yourself. You must be brainwashed by Palin, who I read is a bloodthirsty reprisal and retalitory artist. You remind me of Southern white racists, who are always to trying to find out where someone worked, hoping to have them fired. Or, perhaps you are a wild evangelical, always trying to dictate what people should or should not hear, say, or do. change!! And not the McCain/Palin type, is desperately needed. Ever thought about leaving the country?

Take Charles Reichley while you’re at it.

I’m sure that Mr. Jacobsen will claim the right of free speech to justify his written opinions. It’s a right that we all share as Americans.
Having access, therefore, to many written sources of opinion, it should be easy to find others to agree with, making it possible to set Mr. Jacobsen’s exhortations aside. Personally, this is what I choose to do.
It’s unlikely that this publication will remove or ban his contributions, just as many television outlets choose not to cancel pointless and unpopular shows. Remember though, we have more than one TV channel available to us, and it’s easy to eventually find something we DO like.
Let Mr. Jacobsen have his say. We can always look elsewhere for competent and intelligent analysis. Complaining about his outbursts only helps validate his efforts and brings him the attention that he seems to crave.
