George Bush is a sorry president and man

The front page story “Reaction Positive to Webb’s G.I. Bill” in the July 2 Potomac News was a fitting tribute to Sen. Jim Webb, who worked diligently for 18 months to get the bill through Congress.

One line in the story — that President Bush’s signing ceremony was an “oddly quiet affair”  — deserves amplification.

The two primary opponents of the bill were the Republican Siamese twins — John McCain and George W. Bush. McCain tried to kill the bill in the Senate by pushing a watered-down version; Bush said
he would veto the bill if Congress passed it.

Only after Congress rendered Bush’s veto threat meaningless by voting 416 to 12 in the House and 92 to 6 in the Senate for Webb’s version, did McCain belatedly drop his opposition and Bush
begrudgingly agree to sign Webb’s bill into law.

Hence, the “oddly quiet affair”  held inside the White House rather than in the Rose Garden and attended only by Bush administration officials. Webb and others who supported the bill were not invited.

Even then, Bush could have shown some class by doing what a real man would do — admitting defeat and congratulating Sen.Webb for what is truly a remarkable achievement for a freshman senator.
Instead, Bush did what any liar and coward would do — he shamelessly and cravenly took credit for the bill he had opposed, hypocritically pontificating that “Our nation has no greater responsibility than
to support our men and women in uniform.”  Then, in a shameful act of political chicanery, Bush thanked John McCain for supporting the bill McCain had tried to block.

George W. Bush has spent the last seven years proving he is a sorry excuse for a commander in chief.

On June 30, he proved he is a sorry excuse for a man.

And cobra, I am not bitter about the economy. I still have plenty of work and in fact, we are turning away work. As we work for upper-end income levels, I don’t come across too many illegals that would want to use our services.

I am not angry about 9/11 (911 is an emergency phone number) I am angry Mr. Bush invaded a country that had nothing to do with Sept 11th, has spent trillions of our tax dollars and we are no closer to winning the War on Terror than we were five years ago. If you want to somehow blame the invasion of Iraq on the Clinton Administration, well I believe it was P.T Barnum who said “you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time”. Take your pick of which applies to you.

cobra, you are correct. I could have used the term MIA rather than AWOL when describing Mr. Bush’s “lost years” while “serving” in the National Guard, but that would sound like he was actually on a battlefield fighting for our country. We’ll go with “absent” as even Mr. Bush has not tried to correct his status of the missing years, only stating he was honorably discharged.

Cobra;

I feel proud that I’ve apparently been able to get under the skin of one of the most obnoxious posters in these comments threads.  I’m working to hone my skills and really be able to annoy my right-wing comrades.

Oh, and you should use white space between paragraphs to improve the readability of your rantings.  Anyone who received “A”s on their Masters thesis, as you claim to, would know this.

Signed,

It should be interesting this November. I do think it is time for a change, as McCain for the most part will continue at least Iraq wise the same campaign. The voters now have a chance to see how much of a change they want. Meanwhile Bush will retire with the best benefits in the world and get a book deal and make a fortune on paid lectures. He will also go down as one of the worst presidents in history. As for retired veterans both medically and those that put in twenty or more years: Bush really was never one to sign off on anything to benefit us without a veto, or constantly trimming veterans benefits. In his last two terms he put this country on its butt, however it will not matter as he does not know what it is like to be middle class and struggle to live during these trying times.

Good for Bush,
Senator Webb was very disrespectful to the President when invited to the White House Reception for Freshman Senators. What comes around goes around. Webb only turned Democrat when it was convenient for him to run for Senator. That’s politics. There are hundreds of bills that get proposed. As always when they pass or fail, 50% will agree and the other 50% will disagree. You know Ray, I use to give you a little pass as I did not think you were in the same black hole as phdeebag and ronniecharest but you deserve both barrels. Bush was never AWOL. You need to get your sorry self off of moveon.ignorant. You’re so miserable as you lost all of your customers when the illegal’s left and all you do is complain about Bush. Everything comes back to Bush. You say you have prospered very well the last few years but when the road gets bumpy, it’s all Bush’s fault. You and your sorry band of Liberals have done nothing while holding power. As I have stated, if Bush was responsible for 911 after being in office for 9 months then certainly that do nothing House & Senate who have held power for nearly two years can take responsibility for our economy. Gas has doubled since they were in power. And your continued BS about Cheney’s secret meeting with BIG Oil to inflate the price of Gas. That statement alone shows your ignorance. Man it’s going to be exciting seeing those oil rigs off the coast of CA. It’s coming boys and there’s not a thing you Libs can do about it. Oh and while I’m thinking of it. Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid = 9%. Ha Ha Ha. Nice favorable rating for the two that were going to save the world. Who is Larry Remener and does anybody care. Just another crying Lib.
Ok got to go and send this to Ronniecharest for a spell check.

I believe Mr. Bush proved both when he went AWOL from the National Guard. Mr. McCain, who touts the horrors of torture in his TV campaign when applied to him, now supports the use of torture when applied to other victims. America is ready for a change in leadership.
