The Board of County Supervisors needs to get on with its responsibilities. If the rate is too high, citizen comment, during an open budget process, will drive it down. By not accepting the recommended tax rate, the board tells me they have little confidence in Mr Gerhart and his staff or the citizens of this county.
By choosing not to advertise the recommended rate, county supervisors can force reductions in services without having to be accountable to the residents of this county. Stand up in the open and tell us what needs to be cut, based on citizen input, instead of hiding behind generic, pre-determined cuts. You were elected to be leaders. Come out of the shadows and lead!
