Get the facts straight about immigration

In light of Mr. Stewart’s recent actions to solicit support from the public for his “rule of law” resolution, I would like to encourage the board to be vigilant about getting the facts concerning immigrants in Prince William County. For instance, there has not been a decrease in serious crime because most of the immigrants detained were picked up for minor traffic violations.
It does not take a two-year study to see that the resolution has already had a drastically negative impact on the county and the rule of law under the Constitution. We now have ghost neighborhoods, school and ESL classes down in attendance, increased community fear and home foreclosures, 40 to 80 percent business drop-offs for some business owners, increased hate-speech rhetoric, police due process violations, anecdotal evidence of profiling and the building of negative perceptions.
There are also new family issues to grapple with.
For those of us raising children, it becomes challenging to teach the concept of “love your neighbor as yourself” when the next door neighbor is being deported or is fearfully fleeing.
Even at this early stage, it should be evident to the board that the resolution was ill-guided and must be rescinded or, at the least, suspended, while the board conducts hearings and solicits expert testimony and studies. An easy solution would be to recognize current federal and state laws supporting immigration enforcement, including the recent 287(g) agreements between ICE and the Prince William County police and sheriff’s office, and the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center.

Nava is an illegal immigrant who has admitted to sexually assaulting the 13-year-old he lured to a transient encampment last July. The boy told Sweeney he was raped several times over a five and-a-half hour period.

(Dayton, Ohio) Deported in August 2007, a 23-year-old Mexican, Adrian Garcia-Garcia, returned to Ohio a month later and raped a 10-year-old girl. On February 11, Garcia-Garcia pleaded guilty to rape and importuning a child under 13.
Yesterday, Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge A.J. Wagner sentenced Garcia-Garcia to life in prison.
So, would someone please tell me why I shouldn’t just laugh when the government says that X thousands of illegal aliens were deported? Any number cited as deported is meaningless if they can just turn around and reenter the U.S.
Just imagine—if the U.S. had a secure southern border, that little 10-year-old girl would not have been raped and the American taxpayer would not have to foot the bill to incarcerate Garcia-Garcia for Heaven knows how many years.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police need your help to find a man accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl last month.
Metro Police believe Jose Oviedo is on the run. Detectives have been waiting for Oviedo to return to a eastside home on Michigan street. So far, no sign of him.
When a 24-Hour News 8 photographer knocked on the door, the man who answered said Oviedo had gone to Mexico.
Police were alerted to the situation when they received a 911 call on January 27th.
“He actually went out to the house where he found the little girl and he found out that yes she was molested. And he did a very detailed report,“ said Detective Steve Buchanan.
An affidavit reveals that a 5-year-old said her mother’s boyfriend had molested her. The child’s grandmother discovered signs of abuse and took the child to the hospital.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A man in Prince William County has been charged with raping a 4-year-old girl and being in the country illegally.
Police said Julio Cesar Huaman-Usca, 24, was baby sitting two of his distant relatives Wednesday night when he allegedly raped one of the girls.
Police said Huaman-Usca is an illegal immigrant. He is being held without bond.
Prince William County’s strict immigration policy took effect earlier this month.
It allows law enforcement officials to check the citizenship status of anyone suspected of committing a crime.

RonCharest,
I’m going to agree with you on one fact and that is the Visa Program is totally flawed as evidenced by your situation. We are very appreciative of your wife’s willingness to follow the law regardless of how ridiculous it can become. Those are the kind of people we want here in the US. I am sorry that she was offended at the local DMV but I have to assume that they were just following the law which is very stringent regarding identification. I was just at the Manassas DMV last week and waited with many immigrants. I did not witness unfair treatment towards them. They were requested to show the same identification as was I. As far as Immigration Raids, all Government Agencies are required to implement the law and follow up to see that it is carried out. There are many on your side who are trying to change the law but until such time, ICE is required to enforce the current laws on the books. Those that get deported have no one to blame but themselves and certainly not American Citizens. They come here and have children for the sole purpose of strengthening their hand as they feel it will give them an advantage when confronted with deportation. Yes there are many sad stories about families being separated. It happens every day here in the US when Americans commit crimes and are incarcerated leaving behind children. As with Illegal Immigrants, you can quickly look in the mirror and see who is at fault.

Chemwiz,
I’m not a lawyer. I am a 22 year military veteran and if you’re not you might want to rethink making the argument about who loves their country.
Both my ex- and present wife are immigrants. My second wife and I married in 2003 in her home country. To gain her visa just to come into the US took several thousand dollars, the help of a Senator (Republican), and 20 months effort. Then it took another 19 months for her to gain her permanent residency visa.
For all the effort we put into getting her here legally, since living in PWC it doesn’t seem to matter - my wife has been treated like a criminal by local officials from the first day here. One example is the Dale City DMV. It took us nine trips to the DMV office, two letters to Gov Kaine, one letter and two phone calls to the Virginia DMV Commissioner just to gain my wife’s driver’s license. Among the many insults we took from the local DMV was being twice denied recognition of legal marriage and once being told that my wife was an “Illegal Immigrant” who didn’t rate a drivers license. My wife is not the only “legal immigrant” in PWC being treated this way.
Quite frankly, after everything I’ve been through dealing with INS/USCIS twice and the way my wife has been treated here in PWC, I don’t blame ANYONE for not going through the USCIS meat grinder. It’s not worth it, especially when a person gets treated the same (as a criminal) whether they work through the system or not. I blame groups such as FAIR for some of the present chaos in our national immigration policy, and I blame Cory Stewart and his enablers for the hostility my wife and other “Legal Immigrants” are currently receiving here in PWC.
The US Immigration system is broken. Republicans owned the Federal government for six of the last seven years and did nothing to fix it. Live with it, deal with it, and get over it.
The reality of our current immigration policies: Immigration Raids Getting Tough or Just Official Terror?.

I’m not going to get into a numbers game because I don’t have a clue about the costs on a large scale, and I doubt Corey Stewart does either. Just assumptions. BUT, this again just points to the fact we need to find a way to either close the door quickly and completely OR find a way to capture the lost taxes through a temporary system of documenting the illegals now working. Crying about the lost revenues and social costs and then doing nothing but watching it continue just doesn’t make sense to me. And barnun, for those of us you label “pro-illegal”, we don’t have to do a thing. As to support your argument, the system is working in our favor already. But, for those that actually read the words we type, most would understand we are not “pro-illegal” but pro finding alternate methods for solving the problem rather than relying on the Resolution.

This is a little more unsettling as a 10 year old girl in Idaho was raped by an illegal. Also other women in MD and VA were raped and assulted by illegals. Not sure why this is so amusing to you, but most Americans don’t think its funny at all…

So cobra found Gary’s painter. Either cobra himself is looking for some cheap labor, OR he is a vigilante - like a private eye tracking persons. T%his indicates the type of person the anti-immigrant crowd has as supporters.
