Get the facts straight about immigration

In light of Mr. Stewart’s recent actions to solicit support from the public for his “rule of law” resolution, I would like to encourage the board to be vigilant about getting the facts concerning immigrants in Prince William County. For instance, there has not been a decrease in serious crime because most of the immigrants detained were picked up for minor traffic violations.
It does not take a two-year study to see that the resolution has already had a drastically negative impact on the county and the rule of law under the Constitution. We now have ghost neighborhoods, school and ESL classes down in attendance, increased community fear and home foreclosures, 40 to 80 percent business drop-offs for some business owners, increased hate-speech rhetoric, police due process violations, anecdotal evidence of profiling and the building of negative perceptions.
There are also new family issues to grapple with.
For those of us raising children, it becomes challenging to teach the concept of “love your neighbor as yourself” when the next door neighbor is being deported or is fearfully fleeing.
Even at this early stage, it should be evident to the board that the resolution was ill-guided and must be rescinded or, at the least, suspended, while the board conducts hearings and solicits expert testimony and studies. An easy solution would be to recognize current federal and state laws supporting immigration enforcement, including the recent 287(g) agreements between ICE and the Prince William County police and sheriff’s office, and the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center.

Chemwiz,
I’m not a lawyer. I am a 22 year military veteran and if you’re not, you should be careful making the argument as to who really loves their country.
Both my ex-wife, and my present wife, are immigrants. I spent thousands of dollars, needed the help of a Senator (a Republican) and 20 month’s effort to gain my present wife’s visa just to get her into the US. We waited another 19 months before she gained her permanent residency.
Since living in PWC, even though she is entirely legal, she’s been treated with complete hostility by local government agencies such as the DMV for being an immigrant. For one example; it took us nine trips to the Woodbridge DMV, two letters to the Governor, a letter and two phone calls to the DMV Commissioner to get my wife’s Virginia Driver’s license.
I take the issue of immigration very personal, as it is my opinion that groups such as FAIR are partly to blame for the mess of our Federal immigration policy. I blame the hysteria whipped up by the likes of Cory Stewart and his enablers for the hostility my Legal Immigrant wife has received since living here.
Quite frankly, after the pain, hassle, expense, and abuse I received while twice sponsoring visas for my wives, I don’t fault ANYBODY for entering this country “Illegally.“ Especially when, for all the suffering we went through to gain my wife’s visa legally, she is still treated like a criminal by PWC.
Our Federal immigration system is broken. Republicans owned the Federal government for six years of the past seven years and did nothing to fix it. Live with it.

I’m glad you think this is funny…I doubt you will if it happens to YOUR family. As you can see, this is happening in YOUR own back yard and this is only one aspect of the crimal side. I find it interesting that you had nothing to say about the financial burden. Oh, nvmd, you’re making money on that gravy train, aren’t ya?

Ok Gary & Phdee,
not sure about those figures but the figures provided about Los Angeles County are indeed correct. In March alone it costs that country approx $35 million dollars for Food Stamps and Welfare and that does not include education. That is just in one month. We know your position and you guys would argue a black sheeps white. Facts only serve to get in the way of your agenda. Hey Gary, I found your illegal painters, they moved to fairfax. You’ll have to go down there the next time you try and prevent an American from making a living.

Ron,
I wouldn’t say that continually failing to beleive your emotional fairytale statements and continuing to provide the links that show the proof would not be considered hysterical. I do think however, the Pro illegal group emotional, not logical . The Pro illegal group should take their desire to washington to reform the immigration process rather that to try to convince local communities to ignore the laws and pick up the tab. That is not a democrat or republic issue, reform is a washington issue. Law enforcement on the other hand is the obligation every town, county and state in the Union.

Ron, the American Churches give more to charity world wide than most likely all other contributors combined. I’m not a church goer either but I certainly would refrain from that arguement.

Mr/Ms phdee & Mr. Jacobsen, – the figures are not as hilarious as you think. You are correct in saying that “no one really knows…”, but here are some links to reported/documented figures that support my last email. If you care to do some minor research, you will find much, much more…this is truly the Tip of the Iceberg.
Mr. Charest, you comments sound like a typical liberal who is making money on the backs of the illegals – probably through your law firm. If you love your country and really want to “help people in need” than you will help with illegal immigration reform and help stop the giant drain that they are putting on our society.
My wife is an immigrant and we have been working diligently and spending $$ to get her citizenship. The people who aren’t willing to do the same are BREAKING THE LAW and we’re ALL paying dearly for it, except the few politicians and lawyers who profit from it. (See below)

Am I the only person who sees the “Illegal is Illegal” crowd becoming increasingly hysterical? In the law profession, rule of thumb is “If the facts are on your side, argue facts. If the law is on your side, argue the law. If both facts and the law are against you, stand on a table and yell for justice.“
Seems to me, increasingly, the anti-immigration crowd are standing on tables yelling.
Note to PWCMom: I’m not a church-goer, but If I knew a person in need, I would help them.
Let me rephrase that; When I see people in need, I help them. That largely explains why I’m not a church-goer.

I note that the dollar figures concerning the “costs” associated with immigrants fall into the “unverifiable” category. Enough said.

Oh henwize - you are hilarious with your figures. Heck, no one actually know how many illegals are in the US, much less the cost of services, or how much tax the illegals pay. Im really did like that allegation of over a million SEX crimes committed by illegals. GOLLY!!! And, if all thosemillegals are getting services for which the law forbids, then we need to clean house of US citizens wrongly giving services to those inelibible.—This poster is just propaganda, huff and puff.
