Common sense prevails at the U.S. Department of Transportation. The feds have now approved the subway extension to Dulles Airport. This decision should have been a “slam dunk” since Northern
Virginia has the second worst traffic congestion in the nation.
We should all thank Governor Tim Kaine for his vital role in restoring federal funding for this important project. He lead the negotiations to bring this project back to life. Senators John Warner and Jim
Webb plus Congressman Frank Wolf also played important roles.
Governor Kaine and our local congressional delegation have scored a “grand slam” for Northern Virginia. The project will lower our dependence on foreign oil, ease traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and provide superior rail access to thousands and thousands of good-paying jobs.

However building this boondoggle aboveground will lead to greater gridlock on a main artery. It should be built underground. As a matter of fact they can’t even keep up with repairs on the existing system. How this will benefit local commuters i do not know since most of the workers in this area can’t afford to be jetting around like some business travelers. Will we get hit with a gas tax or sales tax or both to pay for this nightmare? Chris Cummings
