Saturday’s article about DeCarol Davis, the first black female valedictorian of the Coast Guard Academy, who by the way, graduated from a local high school, Forest Park, did not make it to the front page
of the Potomac News — just the front page of the Sports page. This was apparently logical to the editors because this exceptional individual was also a star player on the Coast Guard’s basketball team,
which also excelled this year.
After what seems to be days on end of reading crime stories and county immigration issues on the front page of the Potomac News, couldn’t the editors have included this great news story on the front
page — a show of pride in one of our local outstanding graduates? It sure seems worthy of front page material. Please consider such material in the future. P.S. I am not a friend or relative of Ms. DeCarol,
but you “Go Girl!!”

Just to note:
Tuesday (July 22) The House of Representatives will take up Resolution. 1241 - Congratulating Ensign DeCarol Davis upon serving as the valedictorian of the Coast Guard Academy’s class of 2008 and becoming the first African-American female to earn this honor (Sponsor: Rep. Thompson (MS) – Transportation and Infrastructure)

In my opinion, this should most definitely be a front page story in this newspaper.

Kathleen, I wasn’t aware of this story myself.
However, congratulations to Ms. Davis. That’s quite an accomplishment.
I wish her continued success in service to our Nation.
