OUR OPINION

Today is Easter. It is the day that many Christians celebrate the resurrection of their savior, Jesus Christ.
For others, it is just a time for family and friends to get together and enjoy each other’s company.
For still others, Easter is a time to hunt for Easter eggs, discuss the finer points of the Easter bunny and to munch on candy galore.
Whatever way you decide to celebrate today, we wish you a happy Easter.
Easter has come early this year, coinciding nicely with the change in weather and the dawning of Spring.
The holiday represents the resurrection of a person, but it can also represent the resurrection of the earth — the change from the cold hibernation of the winter, to the joyous warmth of spring.
Easter has survived the secular, consumeristic transformation of holidays better than most.
Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, but the focus tends to be on presents and Santa Claus.
Thanksgiving is about the first successful harvest of the Plymouth Colony pilgrims and their thankfulness for having survived. But today thanks is sometimes relegated to the five minutes before the family is allowed to pig out.
Easter has its bunny and egg hunts, but the spirit of the holiday remains true to many.
Easter is about renewal, so lets look forward to the summer with our thoughts on that — renewing our thoughts, ourselves and our community.
