I do not normally feel the need to join in the discussion here, but Michael Hogan’s letter on May 7 gave me a brilliant idea.
Mr. Hogan suggested that we give America back to the “true Americans,” and I have to say, I think this is something we can ALL support.
He speaks about invasion, and indeed, we have been invaded. It is time we dismantle our government and all of us go back to our homelands, so that the true Americans — the Native Americans — can have their land back.
Indeed, the people who built this country used far more insidious tactics than entering, finding jobs and living their lives — we should be angry on the behalf of true Americans that were slaughtered and put into reservations and given blankets infected with diseases.
Living in a purloined country as we do, I would think people would be more mindful of what they speak.
It may not be Christmas, but goodwill towards man is a concept that more people could practice more often.
It is a shame that Mr. Hogan and so many others are so neglectful of history, since they are doomed to repeat it.

I didn’t suggest sending anyone back to their ancestoral country of origin as a comparison to trying to control immigration, I only responded to it. We have allowed more legal immigration from our southern border than anywhere else in the world. Yes our country was built with Italians, chinese, Irish, english etc as well as native americans. Yes our laws have changed over time but so has the world. Erika, ALL people have been at war and treated poorly at some point in history. Slavery existed thousands of years before the US. Enforcing the law does NOT equate to treating people poorly. The chinese and the Irish were basically slaves in our country as well. Lets not forget our History. We have battled England, France, Spain, Mexico, The Indians as well as North vs South. As for the Mexicans, The US did not conquer their country, spain did. The US went to war with the spanish in Mexico, Not the true mexicans. The Spanish killed most of them.

The only thing that needs to be enforced is the law no matter the color. Illegal immigration is an illegal invasion. But as has been said it is better to give them jobs and steal from the taxpayer to give to these so called undocumented workers<illegal aliens>. My mom came here legally in the 60’s why can’t they? So should i be mad at myself for trying to be lawful? Chris Cummings

A few more straw men like that one, barnun, and this web page will be a fire hazard. She is just arguing against the alarmist comparison of Hispanic immigration to an invasion. You’d better work on your reading comprehension before the SAT.

barnum: just substitute “hispanic” for “black” - and you’ll be back 9in your racist heaven. Why not send the European settlers back also. OR, is white superior to black? I find it interesting you only mentioned blacks.

So, erika wants to send the black people back to africa. That is not a statement we see to much anymore.

Thank you for this letter, Erika. I am sure the “Illegal is Illegal” crowd will erupt in all their sound and fury, as they always seem to do whenever people try to put some reality back into the discussion.
