New housing developments are going up all around Nokesville (within the school boundaries) and it is inevitable that the student population will grow with it. This is not a mismanagement of funds, as she would like people to believe, it is a necessity for a growing community.
At the present Nokesville Elementary School, there are several problems with the building itself. The equipment in the kitchen is very old. The steamer, though it has been repaired several times, still leaks. The dishwasher is not reliable; some days it works and some days it does not.
When it is working, the fifth grade building has no water. A classroom off of the auditorium is sinking because the wood under the building is rotting.
It is difficult for custodians to do their job, because they must carry materials back and forth from one building to another. Many of the separate buildings are also difficult to clean because they do not even have hot water. These are only a few of the many problems.
As our area grows, it is important that our children are given the best learning environment possible.
