No federal funding for Planned Parenthood

In answer to your editorial, the free speech of Planned Parenthood is not “free” to the taxpayers, and it is time to cut federal funding, which last year amounted to $330 million.
As the largest abortion provider in the U.S., totally last year Planned Parenthood took in $1 billion in revenue, and as a non-profit organization, Planned Parenthood pays zero tax. Last year Planned
Parenthood performed over a quarter of a million abortions. This is a perverted use of the tax code for their “brutal and bloody mission” in the words of Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R.-Minn).
An amendment to the appropriations bill that funds the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services to deny federal funds to Planned Parenthood is presently sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence (R-
Ind), who has said: “My point in offering this amendment ... is that millions of pro-life Americans should not be asked to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States.
There is little doubt we will hear some Planned Parenthood apologists proclaim the obvious — that Title X funds may not be used for abortion. We will hear that this amendment would cut family planning
efforts.
The truth is that my amendment does not cut or reduce the budget for family planning in this appropriations bill. It simply prevents the appropriated funds from reaching an organization which profits from
the abortion trade. When Title X money goes to organizations that provide both abortions and family planning services, it can be used to offset operational costs, freeing up money to promote and provide
abortions.
As recent news reports have indicated, there have been serious allegations of violations of the law within Planned Parenthood clinics: false reporting of information and dissemination of misleading advice.
It has also been reported that some Planned Parenthood employees and counselors have failed to report cases of sexual abuse and statutory rape.”

Did you know as well that Gov. Timmy Kaine dropped abstinence only programs from the budget? Sounds like he doesn’t care about people having abortions on demand or future implications to the state budget. I still remember the budget surplus we had when he too office. Ooops not anymore and it only took less than two years for him to screw it up. He was warned about the budget shortfall too. LOL Chris Cummings

Ron Charest? Hundreds of thousands of pregnant women? Have you gone off the deep end? Any proof for those figures? Since the commonly accepted death toll is between 30000 -80000 directly caused by military action. Whoowee, hitting the pipe again i see. Willow the government should not be paying for abortions at all in respect to people making their own choices. It should be covered by the individual, their health insurance, or other helpfull sources of which their are many. Mmarin did you know that Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain are both for faith based initiatives? Grant Gary Jacobsen who are you kidding? Services are provided in context of reproductive health care, i.e abortion. Those 4600 entities should get paid by health insurance, the individual, or some other source. Why should my taxes be wasted so someone can live how they wish. They should have to bear the burden of the cost of their actions. LOL Chris Cummings

Approximately 4,600 public and private entities, including non-profit family planning clinics, hospitals and public health departments, receive Title X funds each year.

Title X has been around since the Nixon Administration. Planned Parenthood (along with many other organizations) gets money to promote family planning, not abortions. At Planned Parenthood,
# people are given a choice of contraceptive methods (including periodic abstinence and other fertility awareness-based methods)
# no one is coerced into accepting a particular method or any method at all
# services are provided in the context of related reproductive health care
# recipients are charged fees based on their income and ability to pay
# no Title X funds are used to pay for abortions (P.L. 91-572, 1970).

I would agree with Gail if the same logic were applied to Churches. There is no reason they should be exempt from paying state/federal taxes. Additionally, the current administrations funding of faith based initives is very anti-tax payer.

So, the government should only give money to organizations that meet the approval of Gail Mockaitis & the religious right?

“My point in offering this amendment ... is that millions of pro-life Americans should not be asked to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States.“
My point is that millions of Americans opposed to the Republican’s war on Iraq should not be asked to fund it.
For that matter, the many generations of unborn children should not be expected to pay for Bush’s folly; yet as it now stands our great-grandchildren will still be paying off Saudi Arabian loans that were made to pay for this war.
I’m still waiting for someone to explain how it is they can be opposed to abortion based on the right to life of unborn children, yet support our war on Iraq that has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of pregnant women - and their unborn children.

Why should my tax dollars go to someone so they can kill a baby? Since the majority of abortions are not rape or incest i find that disturbing, irreligious, disgusting. As a matter of fact i know someone who just had one because life was inconvenient. Pretty sad huh? LOL Chris Cummings
