This is in response to a recent letter by C. P. Brothers III.
On July 10, I was reading the Manassas Journal Messenger letters to the editor section. This isn’t the first disappointing article.
If it wasn’t for Old Dominion Speedway, you’d probably be screaming about your earsore.
When most people look to buy a new home, they like to check out what they’re buying.
Don’t most people go to see if it’s in a bad area, what section of town it’s in, what the neighborhood looks like, what stores, what schools are there, what activities are happening around your new house?
Old Dominion Speedway has been in the same place for 60 years. It is historical. If you would have checked it out, you would have found out about ODS before you bought. The police often use the track
for practice. If it wasn’t for the track, kids of all ages would use our streets for racing purposes. Look what happened in Maryland when there was no place to go race.
They used the streets and people were hurt. ODS is a lot safer. The racing is during the early evening only three days a week. So please come enjoy us, get ear plugs or find a quiet hole.

I think C Higgs makes a good point. The track of 60 years should be relocated to another area to annoy THOSE people that selectively chose that area for the peace and quiet their remote location provides - all to ensure the Speedway does not bother people who chose to purchase a home NEXT TO a speedway. There is some open land next to Lake Manassas, Dominion Valley and Evergreen. Any takers?

Actually, I would prefer they shut down the race track and put in a shooting range. Can we really have enough shooting ranges? I think not!

ODS was built in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the last century. Hundreds of homes and thousands of people live there now. Way back then, some thoughtful poeple put ODS dragstrip somewhere it would not bother poeple’s lives.
Well, let’s do it again. Why the stubborn attitude- Nobody is taking away your toys. Just go play with your friends somewhere you don’t bother other poeple who just wish to enjoy their homes in peace and quiet.

Yea, those two large signs on Route 234 stating Old Dominion Speedway are sure hard to see.
But again, all the fault of PWC for allowing a developer to build without providing proper noise barriers or a sign on the front door of every home stating Speedway Next Door. Or, the neighborhood could have been called Speedway Mews with streets named Petty, Allison and Goodyear to clue people in. Last resort would be to ask your realtor if the neighborhood had any “issues”.

It seems people think that the NASCAR track is the problem. The real trouble is the dragstrip. Way too loud and annoying for a residential neighborhood. Things are different now. People live here. After sixty years, can they retire and let others have a chance at peace and quiet? I live here and I think it’s our turn for a chance to have a say!

I hope ODS never goes away. It’s a great place to take the kids to watch a few races and experience racing at a reasonable cost.

don’t blame people for not knowing ods is there. it’s not like it sits out in the open like say the fairgrounds do. especially since you are talking about people buying homes who aren’t from here. i blame the real estate agents for not informing the prospective buyers. i grew up in woodbridge and passed by ods on 234 many times going to manassas & i always knew there was a racetrack somewhere but was probably in my 20’s before i actually knew where it was. Also, having a racetrack in the county does not make the roads safer. Drive down most any road and you will see cars racing, and agressive drivers daily. ods is geared for amteures intrested in getting into racing not the idiots we have to navigate the county roads with.
