There seem to be some varying opinions among our county supervisors on what are the effects of the resolution on businesses coming to the county and on the perception of people outside the county on whether our county is racist.
As I sat in a bank drive-through line in Marumsco Plaza one day a couple of weeks ago, a PWC police cruiser drove through the parking lot and stopped about 50 feet from a group of Latino males; the officer stared at the group which then dispersed. He then drove to another part of the parking lot and did the same thing to another group of Latino males; they dispersed as well. Were the men “targeted? I believe so.
Was the act racist? I am certain the men felt it was. The true discussion of the resolution and its effects in the community require some level of social intelligence on the part of the supervisors. The only supervisor who seems to display this at this time is Ms. Caddigan.
The truth is that the county’s image has been hurt. Mr. Stewart, if you are not the object of racism, you will be the last one to acknowledge that it exists. I don’t expect someone who lacks social intelligence to understand why the resolution is divisive and racist in its implementation.

Go Gregg White! Excellent letter. If it were a group of Caucasians, you know nothing like that would have happened.

I don’t know or care whether the young men thought—and neither do you. Nor do you know what the police was doing or thinking. However, I am pleased to hear that the young men moved on— hopefully to the county line and beyond!

Well, Mr. White, the policeman was doing his job, regardless of the race of the individuals. Marumsco Plaza is a place of business, not a convenient spot for Latinos, little old church ladies, or even the extended family of Gregg White to gather. People who are not using it for its intended purpose are trespassing. Keep up the good job, Police People.

Question is: was there a no loitering or no trespassing sign up (like other business have put up)? If so, the officer could have arrested them if they had no business hanging around. And that goes for any race.
Seems to me the facts should be talked about more before anyone levels the race card.

so the officer just looked at them men hanging out in a crowd in the parking lot and this makes our county racist ? But if the same officer had stopped to watch a group of 17-19 yr olds hanging out in a parking lot, would he be age prejudice or just keeping a watchful eye as an officer should ?

Oh and Greggy White has so much more social intelligence then Corey Stewart. Do you have a video to back up your claims Greggy or are you just another one of those liberals who is mad that you lost the election? I bet the officer was looking for the next illegal immigrant drunk driver just like the one who hit his fellow officer and left him lying on the side of the road. Were they loitering Greggy? Why did they leave Greggy? Did they have something to fear like being in the country illegally?

How do you know they were all Latino? Are you racially profiling them? If I see a group of males scatter when a police officer pulls up, I think criminal activity.

Nothing racist about a police officer doing his/her job. Congregating groups in locations such as shopping centers are often up to no good. If those who dispersed (ran away) didn’t have anything to hide, they would have stayed. How do you know the management of the shopping center hasn’t complained to police about groups congregating on their property, thus hurting their businesses. You’re correct in saying the image of PWC has been damaged. The influx of illegal aliens flaunting the law, stealing services, violating zoning has done severe damage to our community.

Mr. White,
The PWC police officers actions were not racial profiling. Good try! These officers were acting reasonably, and doing their job. PWC police officers would do the same thing if they saw a group of teenagers congregating.
Supervisor Caddigan has done more to fuel the racial profiling issue, than help it because of her grudge against Chairman Stewart. This is not leadership, this is taking pot shots at someone she doesn’t like.
Why isn’t she promoting our county’s image rather than bashing it! I did not see her hands tied behind her back when she voted for the Reolution, did you?
