On March 18, 2007 Shooters’ Paradise burned down.

They have completed the “hazardous waste removal” and the store has been ready to be rebuilt for about six months.

However, the store’s owner, Coastal International, has not publicly committed to rebuilding in the same location and rumor has it that they have decided to get out of the gun selling business totally.

This disaster impacted people all across the Northern Virginia area such as:

•  National security — Many different security companies trained their guards there.

• Air Marshalls trained and qualified there.

• FBI cadets trained there and received assistance in making their shooting qualifications.

•  All law enforcement officers were welcome and received free range time on “Law Enforcement Mondays.”

•  The Boy Scouts learned firearm safety and marksmanship there.

• Area high school rifle teams and Northern Virginia Community College used it for classes and training.

• Area hunters sighted in their guns and qualified for area hunts such as Mason Neck.

•  People from all walks of life who needed to learn to defend themselves went there.

Never has a small business impacted so many in such a negative fashion.

Never has a small business burning down so singed a part of America.

Coastal International, you are the most short-sighted corporation I have ever had the displeasure of knowing.

Would someone please come and rebuild our gun store?

No, they made money.  It is just Coastal is a security guard training company.  The only reason they bought the gun store is so they would have a range to qualify their guards on.  They really did not understand how a gun store ran.  They also had it woefully under insured.  So when it burned down they did not have anyone qualified to look into rebuilding it.  The author is correct, I really think Coastal got big by accident, not because they have a skilled business staff.

Maybe they just weren’t making enough money in that location?
