I’m writing in response to a letter from Gregg White. In your letter you stated that you were sitting in the drive through of your bank when you witnessed a PWC police officer doing his job. You state that he pulled about 50 feet from a group of Latino men and then onto another group and they scattered.  The police officer was doing his job! It would not have been any different if it were a group of white teenagers hanging out in the parking lot. If I’m not mistaken, most shopping centers have no loitering policies and that was exactly what those men were doing.

I live in the City of Manassas and I have nothing but praise for the County Board of Supervisors who have taken on a very touchy subject and have refused to back down to the threats of the ACLU and other Latino organizations.  Those loitering Latino men should be grateful that they were not arrested for loitering. You should be grateful that PWC is looking for YOUR best interest. What if that group of men had decided to car jack you? You would probably be singing the praises of the PWC police.

Any group of men, women or teenagers, who are basically gathering in large groups in parking lots or shopping centers are more than likely to be up to no good, and to be honest they’re an eyesore. I grew up on Saxon Street; right behind Marumsco Plaza and in the 1970’s it was a nice shopping center. Now it is more or less a crime scene on some level everyday. I think the PWC Board of
Supervisors and the PWC police department is doing a great job and should keep up the good work!

Paperboy since the 70’s nothing but scum has been coming to the area around Marumsco Plaza, vagrants, prostitutes, MS-13, and just plain illegal criminals. Of thusly being illegal is a crime as well. This Resolution is working and that’s what really makes the pro illegal immigrant crowd angry and frustrated. Chris Cummings

Paperboy, your response just shows how wet you are behind the ears.  Grow up.  Marumsco Plaza used to be….that is, USED TO BE, a vibrant shopping area.  It declined for a variety of reasons, which included an infux of people who lack respect or concern for what used to be a nice neighborhood.  With a decline in general cleanliness and upkeep of the area, the plaza declined as shoppers started going to more modern, better kept and better policed areas where they felt safer and had more choices.  Business tenants of Marumsco then left because of falling business, and the plaza became worth more as open land than as a shopping plaza.  If it’s being transformed into condos, that’s only a logical next step and result of all the other that has happened.  It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the BOCs; it’s just reality in today’s world.

By golly I forgot all about that Ron. I remember in PWC, Stafford, and Fredericksburg when a hobo came wandering into town, the police would keep them moving until they were across the county line. If they stopped or sat down they were told to keep it moving or go to jail. Not a bad concept!!!

Thank you for your letter Sandi. I also remember the area around Marumsco Plaza from the 70s as being very nice. I rarely go there anymore because of the third world look to the area. Things are looking up though with the Rule of Law resolution and news that a Manassas man was put on probation and fined over $100,000 for hiring illegal aliens. Perhaps we will grow our town once again.

Sandi, thanks for speaking up. the officer did nothing other than pull up and watch, which he should do with any such gathering regardless of race. So now we have the pro illegal group calling our police racists for just keeping an eye out. The article said the men scattered? If it had been a group doing nothing unlawful, they would have finished their conversations and went about their day.

I agree with Mrs Teets. I used to frequent Marumsco often, but not anymore and the 7-11 across the street-forget it. As a matter of fact- when I was growing up in Alexandria, VA we lived not far from the railroad tracks. If some fellows came wandering into town, they were usually directed right back to the city limits by the police. If you had no roots, no address, no job the police delivered the message-there’s a law in this town. It’s like that old song, these fellows are always looking for a lock that’s not locked when no one else is around. My father always told me “people don’t respect, what you don’t inspect” and so it goes with immmigration. No true border controls, no enforcement of the federal immigration laws. So now its down to our officers on the local level. I say lets work this plan for 24 months. I believe you’ll be able to go back to Marumsco with no worries.

First off how is Marumsco Plaza a crime scene everyday?? The reason That shopping center is on the decline is that the owners are slow pushing all the tenants out. They are then goin to tear down the shopping center and build condos. Once again part of the county’s plan to get rid of the middle-class.
Before you know it there will be nothing but $700,000 condos and over priced retail establishments. Its not the imigrants changing the county its the BOCS forcing out the middle class!!!
