Real estate tax rate concerns from resident

I have a concern about the impending Real Estate Tax increase of 28 percent. I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income without a COLA other than that provided by Social Security. Again another increase in Real Estate Tax in a year with rising costs in basic living expenses such as food, gasoline and utilities, especially heating fuel, just reduces my standard of living even further.

One example of utilities increase: Prince William County Service Authority increased the service charge on the grinder pump for sewer connection from $4 a month to $12 a month! I hope not to be priced out of Prince William County, as this would be a hardship on me as well as probably an increased expense for Prince William County.

Let me explain. Having owned property in the county for 49 years, I now live in a four bedroom house with only my wife and I occupying the premises.

If I am priced out of the county my home would probably be bought by a family that has 2 or 3 children that the county will have to educate!

As I understand, it costs the county approximately $9,000 to $10,000 per year to educate each child. It appears that this would be a negative cash flow for the county. I think it would be in the best financial interest of the county to give senior citizens a real estate tax break to encourage them to stay in the county rather than heading to the Carolinas or elsewhere that is more tax advantaged and prevent the possibility of a negative cash flow.

It is time for the senior citizens to let their supervisors know their feelings. I did.

It has cut enrollment at schools by illegals, and they have left the homes of which the majority were probably overcrowded with illegals in order to not pay taxes. People who lost their hones due to foreclosure from ARM’s only have themselves to blame and for the federal government and Wall Street to bail them out is also a waste of taxpayer’s money. The only plausible scenario i can think of is foreclose on these dummies and hike interest rates and raise the minimum wages and force employees to legally affirm and document all their employees as well as stiffening fines for employers who hire illegals, build the fence virtual and real. Jobs for legal citizens is the only way. Accept it. Chris Cummings

ZCX - really, you are so ignorant.  I agree the budget crisis existed before the resolution.  But would you please tell me (and a lot of others) how the resolution is going to cushion the blow of overvalued or overpriced houses as well as the plight who took out ARM’s?  I as well as some other folks are ewqgerly awaiting this.  Have you contacted the Treasury, Wall Street, banks, etc. with this gem?

The budget crisis was in place long before the Resolution was passed, the Resolution will serve to lessen the blow from overinflated house prices and individuals foolish enough to be here illegally as well as those who signed ARM contracts without reading the rules to them. Chris Cummings

“Save Manassas” has imposed its will upon the citizens of PWC and our supervisors who ended up passing and implementing the immigration resolution leading in part to the current budget crisis. The tax hike was expected but was packaged in such a way that all the supervisors would get re-elected. Now is the time to swallow the bitter pill and get to pay more, a lot more than we ever thought. Of course taxing after winning an election is not that hard for BOCS. Maybe next time around, we must remind them of these manipulations by voting them out of office. This tax increase is going to adversely affect everybody by adding to existing price increase in every sector!

It will only be about 8% on your bill due to the drop in property values not including land value. Hope everything works out for the best for you. Chris Cummings
