Reichley got it right on the Liberty wall

After reading the article “Liberty wall: A fitting symbol,” I must say Charles Reichley did an outstanding job! When he stated he felt sorry for the neighbors, I am a neighbor to the Liberty wall but not to Mr. Fernandez.

If he wants to make such bold statements, do it in his own neighborhood and reap what comes with such a sign — traffic blocking the streets, dangers of fire, rude comments being shouted,  nasty signs being placed on the fence, unwanted gatherings with leftover trash and smelly portable toilets.

Mr. Fernandez can go home and relax, we are left to deal with his mess. If you don’t have the pride or confidence to put the sign in your own neighborhood then why do you feel it should be in mine? I use to take pride living in Manassas but now I only live in shame.

If you are illegal and want to send a message of breaking the law, come to Old Town and put up your sign. The Manassas government won’t do anything about it unless, of course, it was in their
backyard.

Thank you RayW!

It’s occurred to me more than once, reading all this back-and-forth hysteria, that people who argue the solution to undocumented workers flooding across our borders is to stop them before they enter our country, is akin to mice deciding to bell the cat.

Here in PWC we can’t stop people from entering our country illegally, and harassing them out to somewhere else is only tearing up this community and giving our county a racist image all across the US and internationally.  Besides that, it’s not solving the real problems brought by a flood of undocumented workers which appear to be:

- Lots of people overcrowded into private homes and giving neighborhoods a “seedy” unsafe look.
- People driving without driver’s licenses or insurance in unregistered and potentially unsafe vehicles
- People unfamiliar with our language and local culture
- Employers getting away with not paying fair wages or not withholding proper payroll taxes
- Certain commercial areas having a “seedy” look because of people hanging out looking for day labor work.
- Unexpected influx of children in our public schools not planned for in long-range population projections, and possibly needing special educational assistance also not planned for.

Did I cover it all?  While I have some concerns with RayW’s ideas, I think he’s on the right track in trying to deal with a problem vice wishing for magic ponies to make it all go away.

The bulk of us are bright enough to discuss these issues with a civil tongue. Ignore the kooks. I have no problems with barnun as I believe he is open to discussion. Same with RonC. A few of you newer posters are earning respect with your well thought comments. This is all about finding ways to solve the IMPACT of immigration, not immigration itself, which is beyond us. But we can control the impact on PWC. With enough rational people, we can make an impression on the politicians.

Barnun,

You called me a liar twice on the same thread, concerning an LTE I wrote last month.  Read again what I wrote - I didn’t claim you wrote the other things about me, I wrote it was people who apparently align themselves with Conservative viewpoints.

As for inviting people over to my house and help themselves to take whatever they wanted; For the on-line community that’s one step short of issuing a threat of violence against me.  I think you’ve spent enough time on-line to know that.  If not, now you do.

If people don’t like reading my opinions, THEN THEY DON"T HAVE TO READ THEM ANYMORE.  It’s called free speech; you have the right to listen/read whatever you chose to.

Read more about free speech in the Bill of Rights, which is an addendum to the Constitution of the United States of America.  You can probably find a copy in the local library.

Ron, I think people get offended when you are arguing for and supporting breaking the law. you didn’t seem to like it when I told people to stop by your place and take what ever they’d like. Ray can verify that I do and have argued for change in the laws but until then you have to enforce them. I do think the feds, both sides, have dropped the ball on this issue for decades and they are the ones truly responsible for the chaos we have now.

Ron, I called you a liar only once, the rest of the time i disagree. I’m not guilty of the other things you’ve mentioned but i did invite people to fulfull your veiw of the law to make a point. the pro illegal group seems to want to ignore the law for a special interest group. The anti illegal group just wants our laws enforced and we want the employers fined as well. I want the rapists put in jail for life. I want the murderers to hang. I want theives to do x yrs. i want child predators to be slowly dismembered and I want illegal aliens to be dealt with using the laws that are already on the books. Not a new law. Not a new idea. not something special interest for what i want. Immigration is a federal based issue yes. that means it is supposed to be applied equally across our country. it also means that the laws should be supported all the way down to the local community. It is not racism since it is not a law against a race. the law should be applied equally to all people from outside of our borders. i fully respect and support the people that come to our country legally. My veiw is pretty simple and straight forward. just enforce the law. I do agree with Ray and always have that the immigration process needs to be improved. work visa’s should be simple to get. for this to work, employers need to know they will be severely punished for hiring anyone without that legal visa otherwise the illegals will not have the incentive to do the right thing.

Barnun,

Speaking about personal attacks, on another thread you’ve just invited people to come to my home and take whatever they wanted, as some way of proving - something?

Over the past several weeks, for the crime of exercising free speech and using facts to support my opinions, apparent Conservatives have:

- Twice called me a traitor
- Told me to check myself into a mental hospital
- Twice (by you) called a liar
- Generally mocked and ridiculed, on moderated threads no less.

Haven’t seen too much of that coming from the “liberal” side of the house.  Childish indeed.

You are right barnun, and I will apologize if my comments have been viewed as a personal attack towards anyone. I will simply state the facts that the Resolution has already cost PWC $16 million this year, with costs expected to double each ongoing year. The number of illegals entering PWC is growing, just that the illegals are better skilled at blending in with our society than in the past. Also, legal immigrants are registering to vote in record numbers and will soon control a majority at the PWC ballot box. Please accept these statements as correct and don’t ask me to provide any supporting documentation as that would be rude. I guess when one is Pro-Resolution, facts can be overlooked since they don’t support your cause. Sad, really.

personal attacks are a childish way to debate. It seems that most of the pro illegal group is this way. I guess when you are trying to argue why one specific group should be treated above the law, you dont have much else to go on. sad, really

Raywilliams,

When you address questions to Cris “WD-40 Man” Cummings, you need to type real slow so he can keep up.  It might also help if you move your lips and speak out loud as you type.

Okay folks, Chris (now WD-40 Man for being so slippery and evasive in answering questions) Cummings posted his reply in a 8 day old post, where he is sure no one will read it. WD-40 Man says he answers questions but the “liberal newspaper” won’t print his responses ‘cause his answers are so compelling the newspaper is afraid the balance of the world would change. I guess this is WD-40 Man’s way of saying he either doesn’t have anything of value to add or he is not articulate enough to use words that are printable or understandable.  Seeing how many silly comments get posted on these pages, I can’t imagine WD-40 Man being censured by this press. Nice try Chris, now please answer the questions. Oh, and your old stock answer of “the law says illegal is illegal” and your plan of putting 12 million people on an airliner home should be expanded upon in a manner that will get printed.
