Reichley got it right on the Liberty wall

After reading the article “Liberty wall: A fitting symbol,” I must say Charles Reichley did an outstanding job! When he stated he felt sorry for the neighbors, I am a neighbor to the Liberty wall but not to Mr. Fernandez.

If he wants to make such bold statements, do it in his own neighborhood and reap what comes with such a sign — traffic blocking the streets, dangers of fire, rude comments being shouted,  nasty signs being placed on the fence, unwanted gatherings with leftover trash and smelly portable toilets.

Mr. Fernandez can go home and relax, we are left to deal with his mess. If you don’t have the pride or confidence to put the sign in your own neighborhood then why do you feel it should be in mine? I use to take pride living in Manassas but now I only live in shame.

If you are illegal and want to send a message of breaking the law, come to Old Town and put up your sign. The Manassas government won’t do anything about it unless, of course, it was in their
backyard.

Well Mike, assuming you’re correct, then the savings to PWC will be next year and as I pointed out, we don’t have the $12 mill in saving WD-40 Man (new name for that slippery Chris Cummings) keeps claiming we have. That would explain the ongoing budget cuts Corey is making to keep the PWC ship from sinking. Thanks for sharing the fact that WD-40 Man was wrong.

@raywilliams

It’s rather simple:

The extra ESOL teachers won’t be back next school year.  More then likely, they’ll be employed by Fairfax.

Since Chris Cummings likes to bury his posts deep in the old news sections, I thought I’d use a fresh post to help educate him on finances. It is clear Chris is younger than me and the product of the New Math Era of schooling. Chris feels that because we have a lower percentage of students enrolled in ESOL classes, we are spending less money. Unless PWC was handing out $100 bills to each student as they walked in the door, this is not true. What PWC pays for is teachers and facilities. Unless PWC has laid off teachers and sub-leased space, no savings have occurred.  So my question remains (unanswered by Chris) did PWC lay off any ESOL teachers or sub-lease any building space to realize the savings he touts?

Let’s tell the story in a different way so perhaps Chris can understand. His wife goes shoe shopping and finds a nice pair for $100. She notes they are 30% off and makes the buy. Arriving home, she tells Chris she saved $30 and they rejoice. Now my question to Chris is did their bank account GROW by $30 or SHRINK by $70? When your wife wrote the $70 check, your personal wealth status declined REGARDLESS of the “savings” posted by the sign in the store.

Do you get it yet Chris? Savings are only realized when you stop spending money. Continuing to spend money but changing percentages doesn’t create real savings but are simple numbers on paper. When you add up what PWC has spent on the Resolution, ICE training, video cameras, increase jail costs, include the lost sales tax revenue from the population decline and lower property values PWC is losing money, not saving our tax dollars on the Resolution Program.

And the problems still exist: Blighted neighborhoods, unlicensed/uninsured drivers, payroll taxes not collected, a lack of security from undocumented residents, borders wide open and on and on. Good job Chris, you keep on thinking you’re winning the battle. The rest of us will keep working for change.

As a liberal, I believe in as much freedom as possible. Note the qualifier. If there are no limits to freedom, there is no freedom; while I may be free to own property, my neighbor will also be free to take my property.
If I am free to speak my mind, is my neighbor also free to speak his mind, at my door, with a bullhorn, at 3 a.m.? The owner of this sign is committing a similar act. He is not saying, “one nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice for all.“ He is saying, “One nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice only for me”.
Freedom without limits is not democracy, it is anarchy.
