So you say you are a Christian?

I take great exception to Mr. Neal‘s letter in which he states “If you are a true Christian and believe that abortion and same-sex marriage is a sin, you will be held accountable before God himself on how
you vote in November.”

Unfortunately our country is filled with so many self-appointed Christians these days, manipulating the definition of Christianity to accommodate their own hate- and fear-filled agendas that it is almost
easy to forgot that the root of the word “Christian” is Christ.

We Christians, by definition, should live our lives according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christ, the same man who led by humble example and befriended the most unsavory of characters because
they were the ones most in need. Christ, who told us to love those whom it is hardest to love. Christ, son of God, Creator of all creatures, great and small.

So, will “true” Christians also be held accountable before God himself should they support the death penalty or any of the wars currently being waged on our planet, which claim countless human lives?

Is God not angry when we vote in favor of policies which further endanger the weakest among us, both animal and human?

Is greed a Christian value?

Did Christ appoint his followers to judge others?

I must have a different version of the Bible than many of my fellow Christians because so many of these self-proclaimed spokesmen for God speak a language of fear, hate and violence that do not reflect
the values taught in the Ten Commandments. In fact, I think it is time to take an inventory of these so-called “Christian values,” using Christ himself as an example and not our politicians — many of
whom pay lip service to Christian values while espousing an entirely different set of values.

I do agree with one point in Mr. Neal’s letter. This election IS about good versus evil. And a victory for McCain/Palin would signify that hate, fear and ignorance have once again triumphed over the right
thing to do.

Like him or not, Clinton had, and still has, the ability to relate to people others found unreachable.  Liberal press?  Nah.  I never use liberal press as my source.

He makes a good ambassador or America—much more so than Carter.

Again, urf8, no one was maligning your military service. If you are telling the truth, then I am profoundly grateful for your service. Who would even know you were military before you brought it up, anyway? That was a rabbit YOU pulled out of your hat to try to shut down debate. Stop whining, and stop trying to shut people up by pretending they insulted you.

If you really are the defender of freedom you say you are, than YOU would show more respect for differing opinions.

urf8, thank you for your service.  Not everyone is so vile as A-Non-Mom.

Who hates the United States?

According to one source, most of the middle east, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Russia.

Other sources say we should probably add in most of France, parts of Italy and the Philippines.

Obviously, not everyone in those countries hate us, but the leaders certainly don’t advertise us a “nice.“

anonmom-

I find your tone offensive!  “..then I submit that YOU are a disgrace to your uniform”  I am one of your defenders of freedom, you kook!  You have a right to your uneducated, coerced, and shallow opinion, because of our Constitution and people like me who defend our country.  But you have overstepped the bounds of civility by your bitter statement above.  It just shows your contempt for those of us in uniform who serve this country as well as those who don’t want don’t want religion forced on us by religious zealots like you!  I have served three combat tours in the Middle East and survived a coup d’etat in West Africa; I guarantee you would not be so disrespectful to me in person!  You do it in this forum because you a truly a coward!

I’m with you on your first point, blue. I’ve had enough of Bush and am definitely ready to say bye-bye to “that one.“

As far as your last point, that the world didn’t “hate us” with Clinton, come on, that is such a tired old press-invented liberal talking point. The whole world hates us, but doesn’t mind sticking its hand out for cash from what is the single largest giver of foreign aid in the world? If they hate us so much, why do they try so hard to be like us, to want our standard of living and to flock to this country, even risking their lives and health to cross the border in order to obtain it?

The “rest of the world” doesn’t hate the U.S. American liberals do.

I would love to have skipped the Bush years.  Whatever is said about Clinton, Bush had ample time to fix, including building up the military, capturing Bin Lauden, and push through Republican agendas in Congress and all the other lame excuses people use to cop out of a terrible Bush administration.

Under Clinton, the rest of the world didn’t hate the United States.

I skipped the Bush administration because I was discussing Democrats—last I checked, Bush was a Republican, and I did not vote for him, as I said. Get your facts straight. You twist things around because you have nothing more to say, and it is starting to sound desperate. What’s your problem? Isn’t your savior ahead in the polls? Again, you display the sort of mandated groupthink typical of liberal democrats. In four yeas, you’ll go down in flames, just like Carter did, and then the grownups will have to come in and clean up the mess.

And my favorite line from anonmom:

“Fast forward to the last two years”

Yea, let’s go from Bill Clinton in 1999 to 2006 - skipping the entire Bush Administration.  If I was a John McCain supporter, I would want to skip the Bush Administration also. Shoot, I am an American and I STILL wish we could skip the Bush Administration.

But now ... No More Years for George W. Bush or his John McCain successor.

“And let’s review what Democrats brought to us:“

And once again we have to remind anonmom that neither Bill Clinton (although he would like to) or Jimmy Carter is running for president this year.
