Something different must be done

The downside view of the argument that a candidate needs only experience is — “no change” is wanted. Yet an honest analysis of world conditions must conclude that less of what has “gone down” is
more of what is needed.

Individual situations do not make up the compass that needs to be followed. Rather, it is the trend lines to the future that require the focus and thoughtful attention of our leaders. Leaders free to
understand and focus on important opportunities and open to using “We the People” as their guide-post to what must be done.

Mr. Obama is this kind of leader. His careful consideration of Gov. Kaine, among others, as vice president is telling about his and Kaine’s compass bearings.  They share a vision of the country. It is an
idea born of self-discipline and deep social commitment. They know fundamental change is needed, not only of our policies, but how politics (the making of policies) works.

To lead this nation soundly into a globalizing 21st century means the way business is done in Washington has to change. It is not a choice anymore; it is a necessity.

The current “nightmare” administration is ending and the world is watching the U.S. with bated breath (it’s their future too.) Obama’s recent tour made clear that he has world-class leadership skills and
the vision needed to meet world leadership responsibilities.

Now is the time for America to lead knowingly and boldly into a century that is ours to make anew.

More of the same old mindless leadership will not do.

First off you lost me in your very first sentence, “The downside view of the argument that a candidate needs only experience.” Who is saying that?  I’ve been paying close attention to both candidates and haven’t heard that from either side.  I have heard people point out Obama’s inexperience and no doubt it is a plus for McCain but I haven’t heard anyone say all you need is experience.  I think you’ve missed the point all together there.  To become the President you need many attributes and one of them is experience, which Obama has some but there is no arguing that McCain has much more.  So you’re pointing out a flaw in an argument that nobody is making.  I imagine the point you’re making in the rest of the opinion piece is that McCain having so much experience he can no longer see the forest for the tress which I think to some extent has some merit however I think I’ll take my chances there instead of maybe somebody so inexperienced that he’s naïve enough to totally mistake the trees and the forest for magical pixie sticks.
