Most of us have seen sprinkler systems running when it’s raining outside. Unfortunately, our state delegate hasn’t. In his recent column, he criticized Delegate Brian Moran for an initiative to require those with outdoor automatic sprinklers to install rain sensors that stop them from operating when we have enough moisture or rainfall for the land. Many states like Florida, Georgia and Illinois — to name a few — have already acted.

We can save as much as 25 percent of our water and recoup the money in one to four years.

This proposal would have saved taxpayers money and preserved the environment. Unfortunately, Delegate Scott Lingamfelter is stuck in the mindset that any government action is bad government action.
He probably believed we didn’t have enough regulation of the subprime lending markets either.

We have reached a point in time where we can no longer afford to use water unnecessarily. But, thanks to Scott Lingamfelter it will persist for another year.

One recent survey indicates that at least 36 states are anticipating water shortages by 2013.

Thank you Delegate Moran for introducing this smart, targeted reform that protects our environment and saves us money. We need more improvements like that.
