Thanks Mr. Stewart and the Prince William County Supervisors for raising my taxes. As a retiree on a fixed income, you are now forcing more taxes on homeowners through programs the county should not be shouldering.

Mr. Stewart says that people want to pay to police immigrants. Now the truth comes out. The cost will be high.

I need the tax relief, not increases. When you run for Lt. governor, Mr. Stewart, I hope you win and go to Richmond in a do-nothing job. A good escape for damages done in Prince William County.

phdee/no,i don’t jest.as i said ,the closing of virginia schools in the 60’s was wrong because it took action against legal citizens;yes out of bigotry.  the current law aims to remove criminal illegal aliens from the county hardly the same thing.

Mr. Williams,
I have Hispanic neighbors right next to me as well as across the street. They are brothers. They are wonderful neighbors from Mexico and they came here legally. They have 6 children between them that I interact with almost daily. They know my position on illegal immigration and they agree. It has reduced their wages in the Construction Industry. I had another Hispanic family next to me until they moved out in the middle of the night. We had no idea who was living there as there was constant traffic in and out of that house. They built 4 bedrooms in the basement without permits and did the same by building a 9 foot deck off the back of the house which is now falling down. If you ask them, they will tell you that I am a good neighbor. The solution for many is to have me move out of my neighborhood that I have lived in for 20 years. That is flawed thinking on their part. My comment re the bus service is one directed at their culture. What other country in the world has a separate bus system for their woman. I don’t like to paint the Hispanics with a broad brush but Hispanic Males have a macho attitude towards woman. Just ask some of the young woman who live in the community. I enjoy the debate Mr. Williams but let’s keep it rational. Before you respond, can I ask that you to go to the following website and read the stories about those that have been murdered in the US by illegal immigrants, many of whom had previous run ins with the law only to be released back into the community due to Sanctuary Laws. I would like everyone who opposes our actions against illegal immigrants to review this web site and then come back to me. If you can get through it without a lump in your throat, you are a better man than I am.
Web site is immigrationshumancosts.org.

Cobra:  When you end your otherwise well-put-together comments with a “snear” towards ones bus manners, you’re leaving the issue at hand - legal vs illegal immigrants - and returning to the bashing of a people or culture. That is what places the idea in reader’s minds that you are perhaps a racist or bigot. You are bright and articulate and can make your case well without resorting to bigoted remarks, I believe.  Focus on the issues and not the people and perhaps readers will stop associating you with racism.  If you are motivated by other’s opinions of you, then perhaps I have misjudged you. The question becomes would you welcome a legal, documented, working Hispanic family as your neighbor or would you look for things about them you don’t care for?  If you welcome them, you are not a bigot.  If you find fault with them regardless, then perhaps you would need to look in the mirror or Webster’s for the definition of such.

Been there myself Mr. Williams however the folks you encounter at the beautiful resorts on the coast are not the ones who are trying to sneak into the US. They appreciate what America has done for Mexico. We are getting the worst of the bunch. We are not getting PhD’s or Engineers from Mexico. We are getting those that can not afford to eat or provide for their own families as they have very little education or skills. The US can only absorb so many dishwashers and grass mowers. What I don’t understand is why they do not march for change in Mexico City. When you talk to them about why they are here, they quickly tell you that they had to leave to provide for their families. They will never ask the question of their own government as to why they don’t provide a descent education or jobs for their people. Mexico is a rich country but the corrupt politicians continually vote down any and all economic initiatives as that threatens the ruling party. The richest man in the world is from Mexico. No reason in the world that in the year 2008 that they can not get their act together, but continue to rely on their citizens to leave the country and return billions of dollars that should be spent on our economy and not theirs. Mexico Central Bank just released remittance totals for the month of January. Over $1.6 billion dollars was remitted back to Mexico in just one month. Would like to know exactly how much of that money was earned under the table and also the amount that is funneled to the Coyotes to bring in other families to the US illegally? Guess we will never know. There are millions upon millions of people in the world who would love to have a chance at the American dream. They wait in line for years. When they become citizens it stands for something. Now let’s talk about Mexicans who hold dual citizenship. They not only participate in US elections but also elections in Mexico. That goes against the very basic position that when you are sworn in as a US Citizen, you swear off allegiance to any other country. That is just lip service for Mexicans. Mexico first, everybody else takes a back set. Again thanks for throwing out the word bigot and racist again. Just keeps us motivated. Oh one other fact about their culture. There was a recent article where a new bus service was put on line in Mexico City. This new bus service is reserved for woman only as that complained about being groped and assaulted on a regular basis on the public transit system. But that’s just a culture thing Ray, right??

I have to also comment on Cobra’s thoughts that the construction industry does a poor job of checking legal status.  The industry knows exactly who is legal or not - that’s a no-brainer.  It is the homeowner that does not properly vet contractors to ensure a legal, on-book payroll work crew.  Homeowners often shop price and reward low-price companies with the work. How do companies offer low prices? By avoiding the added costs of matching payroll withholdings.  If homeowners would simply ask for documentation that the work crew is properly paid and taxes withheld, we could stop the practice. And I might add there are many Americans working for cash or avoiding taxes by getting paid on a 1099 form also.  This is not as much a legal/illegal issue as it is a construction-practice issue.  Homeowners beware of off-book contractors.

mrbill, surely you jest. Va’s closing the public schools was the state’s answer to it’s “massiver resistance” stance, that originated in the GA and governor’s office.  It was a lawless act to defy the US Supreme court - pure and simple. And it was as recent as 1965. The idea was to keep black kids from getting an education in integragtedx schools.  The Court has ruled that kids can’t bemdenied education in public schools, regardless of being legal or illegal.  Now, Va. bigot are trying to drive away (ie. ethnic cleanse) the public schools of Hispanic kids, alleegedly to save money.  Sounds like the same goals now by HSM, Stewart, PWC, Letiecq, et al - drive them away - save our culture, English only, etc etc.  Sorry, you are ignorant of the facts and real world.  It’s a rebirth of Southern racism, Va. style, by a monority of hatemongers and bigots.  Law and order!!!

Mr. Cobra is correct in stating that Hispanics are leaving the area due to a lack of jobs, and correctly due to the decline in the construction field. But they will come back when the economy improves and construction returns. What I am puzzled by is his “mixing” of Hispanics, legal and illegal, with those that park in front of his home or perhaps have active children. If these are legal, documented residents then we simply have rude or unsuspecting neighbors of different customs and traditions. If so, we should focus on social skill development to help acclimate our new friends to our traditional ways. If he doesn’t like the fact they are Hispanic, legal or not, then we have a racist or bigot amongst us - and to me, that is worse than someone with weak socal behaviors. Oh, the drug dealers? Lock ‘em up and toss away the key.

Mr. Paetzold,
I respect your position as a retiree but I am responding to your comment at the request of my parents who are also retired and have lived in the Loch Lomond/Yorkshire are of Manassas since 1964. They have seen budget short falls over the years for many reasons. Some they agreed with and others they did not. They do however support the County 100% on its position against illegal immigration. My parents have had to endure the many Hispanic families that have come and gone in their neighborhood the last 10 years. My parents have absolutely not a bigoted bone among them but they have a very negative opinion due to the problems associated with life style of Hispanics. They had no respect for the fact that they had lived their for over 40 years by parking cars in front of their home for days, selling drugs right out in front of their house and the many children who seem to have no respect for their neighbors. I can back those facts up with the many police reports that were initiated by my parents. There was a recent homicide in their neighborhood which has been linked to MS-13. That is the greatest thing about yours and my parent’s generation. They were always willing to suck it up a bit for the good of everyone. Unfortunately my generation does not have the same mentality. Don’t be fooled by the media’s continued slant that the short falls are due to Hispanics moving out of PW County. That may be the case for a few but the majority left as there is no work. They rely on the construction industry as they do a poor job of checking the legal status of those that apply. When those jobs dry up, they have to move on.

Mr. Bill: you must know illegal immigrants can’t apply for a drivers license, SS# or other work papers without having a work visa or pending green card application. The KKK/HSM ilk politicos have eliminated those options.  So we’re left with thousands of illegal residents working, using our social infastructure and sending kids to schools, and possibly not making their full tax obligations via payroll deductions. To the shills that bark “they don’t pay taxes” I say let’s set up a system to collect those taxes.  But no, the KKK/HSM ilk created the Catch 22 system that says you should work and pay taxes so you’re not a burden on the community but we’ve fixed it so you can’t pay taxes therefore you’re a burden and now we can holler about it. The old Catch 22.
The PWC effort to drive out illegals is akin to fighting a house fire with a garden hose. Ain’t gonna work. So .. do we continue to holler about it OR change the Catch 22 system to allow some type of work documentation that allows taxes to be collected and reduce our tax burden? If you are for restricting illegal documentation, then you are for accepting the added tax burden. If you don’t like the tax burden, then support ammendments to support some type of “legally-illegal” documentation.  If you want the best of both worlds - get a good fiction novel.

phdee/the county does have the obligation to pay for these services.the complaint is that citizens are paying more of the burden than those here illegally.our county tax bill has tripled in the last 8 years.yet, the illegals rather than going through the legal process to become citizens continue to complain about how they are discriminated against and refuse to honor their obligations. your argument of virginia’s closing of public schools is a red herring:that was wrong because it was perpetrated by small-minded people against legal citizens.
