Mr. Brothers III, have you ever heard of “Grandfather Clause?” Old Dominion Speedway has been here probably longer than you and has always provided family entertainment in our community for anyone who wishes to attend. Have you ever considered the automotive innovations that have been created due to auto racing? Many of which are on the vehicle you drive.
One example, child safety seats have a five-point restraint system, which has long been tested and used in auto racing.
We all have to deal with inconveniences in our towns and neighborhoods. While ODS may be an inconvenience to you, it is opportunity for others. Perhaps the next time you take your vehicle in for mechanical service, you should thank all the speedways across the country, for many mechanics have been inspired to pursue their career because of auto racing.

Certainly the residents could spring for the funds to provide some type of noise barrier. Or PWC could create a special tax district on those neighborhoods concerned to provide funds for the barrier. ODS should not be penalized for being there nor should residents outside the area pay for noise barriers that don’t benefit us.
We could expand this debate to those that live near the railroad tracks or fire stations that are affected by whistles and sirens. At some point it all comes down to knowing your neighborhood before signing on the dotted line to purchase a home.
ODS has done their part by requiring mufflers on certain classes of cars and initiating a curfew on how late the cars can run.

We live right next to ODS, and while we respect the fact that ODS was here first, why couldn’t the owner try and be a good neighbor and work with the County to institute some noise controls? For instance, how about building some of the same walls being built along 66 for noise control?
For those who don’t live nearby, the noise is deafening to the point you can’t hold a normal conversation in your home while ODS is operating. Seems to me that a win-win would be for the owners to step up and with the County, institute some noise abatement measures.

The funny thing will be when the Speedway land finally becomes so valuable it becomes another housing development. Mr. Brothers will write another LTE to state his displeasure with the gridlock of traffic that has sprung up around his home and the noise from the Friday night football games at the required new high school in his back yard.
