The real truth about who will raise taxes

I have never written a letter to editor but I felt that this issue was too important to stay quiet. Many readers have probably seen those scary TV ads sponsored by the Republican Party and the
McCain/Palin campaign, a woman, in a low voice, whispers an ominous secret — Barack Obama wants to raise your taxes, spend too much money and generally be bad for voters’ pocketbooks.

Sounds very scary, doesn’t it?

So I researched a little and found that when it comes to tax proposals it is actually Barack Obama’s plan that will save the middle class more taxes than the McCain plan, which supports the continuation
of tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans making more than $250,000 a year.

The Obama Web site describes his plan as providing a tax cut for working families, creating a new “Making Work Pay” tax credit up to $500 per person or $1000 per working family.

Also, under this plan, 27 million senior citizens will not even need to file a tax return!

The plan will simplify tax filing for middle class Americans. The IRS will send forms including the pre-filed information from employers, banks, etc… to taxpayers, giving them the opportunity to just verify
and sign the forms, returning them to the IRS. This should save up to $2 billion in tax preparation fees for American taxpayers.

As a former tax preparer I found out the real truth. If you want to be good to your pocketbook, before listening to the attack ads spend a little time and discover the reality.

And it is because of this that in November I will be voting for Barack Obama.

Still no proof from Irishlad on his claim that Sen. Obama will raise taxes in spite of repeated, specific stated plans to cut taxes from the Obama campaign. Since he has established such a standard for the debate here I am going to go ahead and claim that Sen. McCain will not only raise taxes but outlaw guns, in spite of explicit statements of support for Second Amendment rights on his web page, and have the military invade Spain in spite of his apparent inability to locate it.

Ray,

Funny a liberal talking about rich people. Stay on topic. Obama will raise taxes end of story.

Irishlad, if McCain’s $300 tax savings sounds good to you, Obama’s $1,100 tax cut for middle class families should sound even better.

Unless of course you’re “middle class” like Todd & Sarah Palin, with a net worth of over $2 million. Yes, if you’re a multi millionaire household like the Palin’s, you should support the Bush/McCain tax cuts for the filthy rich program.

If multi millionaire’s are the new middle class, I’ve gone straight from middle class to among the working poor.

I don’t know about you but $300.00 dollars in taxes I do not have to pay sounds good to me.  Maybe you are like Michelle Obama who pays $600.00 for a pair of ear rings.  But in the real world $300.00 is a tax break.

Biden also said FDR was the President in 1929 and spoke to the Nation on TV.  Biden also said he was shot at while in Iraq. Biden also said John McCain’s health plan would result in the largest tax hike in the history of the Country.  Yup, we can trust Biden to tell the truth.

Obama has said many times Repubs have come up to him and whisper they support him.

Irishlad, the tax cuts Sen. Obama favors allowing to expire are those of the Bush Administration which gave a measly $300 to the majority of American families while giving over $40,000 to the super-rich. He plans to replace this with a tax-cut plan that gives more money back to the middle and lower classes. Sen. Biden spelled it out rather clearly during the last debate. Oh, but you say that Sen. Obama is lying. Anything that easy to say and not backed by any proof must be true.

Ray,

First you think I am someone else.  Then you think you know exactly how many middle class folks will see their taxes increased by Obama. But, the fact remains, Obama’s tax plans will raise taxes on the middle class.

The simple fact is that Obama is lying about his tax plans.  Maybe he should have his own “truth squads” look into his lies.

That is pretty funny comeing from the party of Kennedy, Kerry,  and Edwards, etc.  Talk about out of touch.

I wonder how many ‘middle class’ Americans earn a substantial amount of their income from capital gains? I would reckon not many. Nice try Irishlad-cobra.

And, what is a deficit if it is not a tax increase? When more of your money goes to pay interest to China and India rather than be used here at home, that is a tax increase by another name.

The Bush/McCain policies of the past eight years has lead to an economic meltdown of our economy. Barack Obama understands we cannot borrow our way out of debt. His tax realignment plan will shift tax burdens from the middle class and return them to the ultra-rich that Bush/McCain befriended in the first place. You know, families like McCain’s with 7 homes.

Don’t take my word for it. Just look at the $300,000 TAX SAVINGS Dick Cheney benefited from in the first year alone. How many new jobs do you think Dick Cheney created with his savings? So much for the trickle down theory touted by Bush/McCain policies.

There is only one problem with the letter.  Obama will raise taxes on the middle class, unless of course you do not think capital gains tax is a tax, and you do not consider the “death” tax to be a tax.  Oh, and since Obama is in favor of letting the Bush tax cuts expire, that of course will raise the taxes on the middle class.

GSU said: “as a former tax-preparer you should know that a small business owner makes more that 250 thousand”.

As a former tax preparer, you should know if a business owner is able to snag $250k out of a business, it is not a “small business”. Sales would be in the one million plus range per year.

If someone is making $250k a year, they are not going to lay anyone off over a few extra dollars on their tax bill. Say your taxes go up $5,000 per year - an extreme guesstimate. You’re going to lay off a $20,000 per year employee that’s making you the $250k in the first place? I don’t think so.

I AM a “small business owner” making in the $250k salary range. I think I have enough spare change to pony up a few more dollars in taxes to help those earning less than $100,000 per year.

$5,000 is chump change to anyone making $250k per year or up.

As a former tax-preparer you should know that a small business owner make more that 250 thousand , and Obama is attacking those small business that are part of the engine of the middle class. Small business are going to reduce the number of employees to pay those taxes. Those small business owners are the rich people for Obama. Vote for Obama for more ‘unemployment”
