The suspense is over, the horror begins

Well, we’re all glad now that the suspense and question of who is going to be the Democratic candidate for president and vice president is finally over. It’s especially gratifying to know that with Obama
and Biden you will have two of the most rabid abortionists — if they are elected — ever to reside in the White House.
Biden aside — Biden has been asked by the Catholic ArchBishop to forego communion because of his pro-abortion positions — Obama has a history of not only holding a fervent pro-abortion stance, but
has voted against every attempt (in the Illinois legislature, at least) to regulate even some of the more horrific and onerous abortion practices such as partial birth and live birth abortions.
I am not entirely anti-abortion; there are circumstances, I strongly feel, where it is or can be justified. But I do not support abortion for its own sake. A history of trying to make the practice of abortion
tantamount to infanticide, as Obama has apparently done and most probably will continue to do if he is elected president, is something that every rational thinker and anyone with even an ounce of
humanitarian compassion should consider when they go to the polls this fall.

The ArchBishop’s error, was instead of attempting to grandstand just before the Democratic Convention, to have simply stated the Church’s position, is asked, and leave it at that. However, he chose to grandstand, and name an individual. He made it personal, and has just further embarassed the Church.
The Church willingly expresses it’s opinion on abortion, contraception, and divorce. In my memory it has not in recent times, singled out a person. I am sure that
Rome is not happy with the Archbishop of Denver right now.

Meanwhile,
While the good Archbishop of Denver singles out Democratic politicians for their pro-choice positions on abortion, while ignoring those Republicans who hold pro-choice positions, we have this:
“Denver Archdiocese settles 18 sex-abuse cases”
“DENVER | The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Denver announced Tuesday that it had agreed to pay $5.5 million to settle 18 claims of childhood sexual abuse against three now-deceased priests, bringing the archdiocese’s total payout in such cases to $8.2 million.
“It is my hope that these settlements help the victims and their families to heal,“ said Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, who apologized on behalf of the church at a press conference here.“

Whenever I read this stuff, I remember Matthew 7:5 (New International Version)
5"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.“

Does it bother anyone else that a politician is held to a different standard than anyone else by the Catholic Church or its agents?
Churches need to back off on policy whether we are speaking of Rev. Wright or the Archbishop of Denver. Can’t be much fairer than that.

Speaking of communion and political persons: should communion be denied to BOCS Stewart, Stirrup, Nohe, May, Caddigan - all Catholics for the resolution that was directed at a mostly hisppanic (Catholic) group of people.

Below is an excerpt from an article by Jon Carroll, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reprinted in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Quote
Happened last week. The Roman Catholic archbishop of Denver, Charles Chaput, said that the Democratic vice presidential nominee better not try to take Communion at a Catholic church in
Denver, where he was accepting his party’s nomination. The Democratic Party platform strongly supports a woman’s right to choose, as does Biden himself, although he is said to be
personally against abortion.
“I certainly presume his goodwill and integrity,” said the archbishop, “and I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for Communion if he supports a false
‘right’ to abortion.”
The day before the archbishop made that statement, Biden had “presented himself” at his parish church in Wilmington, Del., and taken Communion without any difficulties — just as he
has done most Sundays for more than 20 years. Millions of Catholics who disagree with one or more of the church’s teachings also take Communion, which is a reaffirmation of their faith and their bond with God.
Chaput’s remarks were not, sad to say, unprecedented. But the timing of them with the convention was plainly grandstanding. He had to inject his church — which, of course, gets
numerous tax benefits for being holy — into national politics by reminding Catholics that Joe Biden is, or should be, anathema to all true believers. And why did he do that? Because he
could.

Sen. Obama’s statement in his acceptance speech:
“While we can have honest differences about abortion, surely we can agree about preventing unwanted pregnancies.“
Yep, pretty radical stuff - if you believe that contraception and other forms of birth control should be illegal along with the right to choose. Which is exactly the position taken by radical right-wing clerics such as Dobson, and the most extreme (so far) Republicans.
And as for Senator Biden being denied communion due to his political position on abortion; Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, along with several Republican Governors, are all pro-choice. As the Catholic Church is not denying those individuals communion based on their political viewpoints, then the Catholic Church is making a partisan political statement.
But, I guess in RepublicanWorld this is okay, because the Church is supporting a Conservative position. Let a church support a “Liberal” position such as “Love Thy neighbor,“ or “Tolerance for all people regardless of sexual preference” and the wingnuts go crazy(ier).

“The American people aren’t fools, and will eventually see through whatever smoke-and-mirror feel-good tactics these two candidates employ to obfuscate their true goals. I am confident that they and their kind will be soundly repudiated at the polls this November.“
Good of you to note the Democratic nominees’ “true goals” are to keep - the horror! - abortion legal. But is it perhaps something far more sinister, such as banning the right to own assault rifles, or perhaps attempting to uphold the Constitution? Or practicing fiscal restraint? Restoring habeus corpus? Engaging in diplomatic relations with sovereign nations that are directly involved in our regional interests? Those nefarious liberals! Always working in the interests of the Eastern Elites - as non-fools, Americans must unite on the one sound principle that has kept this great nation strong: prevent women from having reproductive rights. Why, even Sarah Palin admits the pre-natal testing she received that let her know little Trig would have Down syndrome is a dangerous freedom that women have had too long. She made the courageous (and non-hypocritical!) choice to do something that she feels should be illegal, and it’s high time we all did, as well. The American Way asks no less.

You’d better hope people are voting on issues other than abortion. Polls consistently show more than half the country supports keeping abortion legal. The number is something like 75% when you throw in those would allow abortion only in certain cases.
I consider myself pro-choice, but I’d like to see abortion eliminated in this country. We could do it with a combination of real sex ed in school, access to condoms and the morning after pill. In spite of your attempts to demonize Democrats like Obama and Biden, I think you’d find many of us would work towards that goal.

I, too, have heard such a statement concerning Mr. Biden’s communion priveleges. Whether it is true or not I can’t say, but I do recall seeing something to this effect in the Philadelphia Inquirer about six weeks ago. Not anything terribly new or unpredictable.
Concerning the term “abortionists”, it seems to suggest that Messrs. Biden and Obama actually perform some of these procedures themselves, which I’m sure they’re quite unqualified to do—among other things. “Pro-abortion”, or the somewhat friendlier but falsely positive term “pro-choice” might better describe their position.
Mr. Grandy shouldn’t be too afraid. The American people aren’t fools, and will eventually see through whatever smoke-and-mirror feel-good tactics these two candidates employ to obfuscate their true goals.
I am confident that they and their kind will be soundly repudiated at the polls this November.

“The Democrats attacked McCain about the number of houses he owned, at least he know how many brothers and sisters he has! “
There are people in this country who aren’t lucky enough to know their fathers. There are people who have been adopted and don’t know how many brothers and sisters they have.
If you think this equates with not knowing how many HOUSES you own, you are just a complete idiot.
