My wife and I left Prince William County about nine months ago and have found that access to your newspaper online has helped us get our periodic “fix” of news about the county.
Two thoughts about last week’s election results. First, it is a tragedy for the county, for Virginia and for the nation that neither John Warner nor Tom Davis will be employing their considerable leadership
skills for our corporate benefit after the conclusion of their current terms. Although a life-long Democrat, I was honored to have been able to vote for each of them every chance I had. Now we can pray that
Mark Warner and Gerry Connolly are ready and able to lead.
Second, perhaps the voting results will be a signal that the electorate is getting to the point of no longer tolerating the fear-mongering tactics of Corey Stewart and his cohorts and that all of us are quite
ready to insist that our elected leaders are pragmatic in approach and centrist in philosophy.

John Warner and Representative Davis were, for the most part competent, honorable statesmen for whom I have some respect. But their consistent partisan support for the Bush administration as it repeatedly subverted the constitution, looted our treasury, abused and exhausted our military, committed torture in our name and generally acted with breathtaking recklessness and incompetence was disappointing and shameful.
They took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, but failed to act when the “enemies” were members of their political party.
So thanks for your service, but goodbye, good riddance and don’t let the door hit ya’ where the good Lord split ya’.
Let us hope that Senator elect Mark Warner and Representative elect Gerry Connolly prove to be better defenders of our constitution, our reputation, our hard-earned tax dollars, our men and women in uniform and our environment.
