Gracias to the Chamber of Commerce, most churches and Prince William County Police Chief Charlie T. Deane for their continued support of illegal aliens. If Mr. Deane feels guilty for enforcing the laws then may be he should step down or be fired!

No worries, Cobra.

jmojoreynolds, I’ve seen “The High Price of Low Cost”.  It had a profound effect on my family.  I won’t go near a wal-mart now and try to shop at locally owned businesses as much as possible.

The book “fast food nation” explores how illegals are exploited by the meat industry and the fast food industry too.  Its a really good read (there is also a movie which isn’t quite as good).  Before anybody thinks I’m getting overly sympathetic to illegals or anything, I’ll add that we’re all being taken for a ride by these companies exploiting this source of cheap labor.

The jobs in the chicken business are dificult and dirty , same for crab picking, and stooping over to pick strawberries in the hot sun all day.  When you really need to feed your family you will do just about anything.  It will be interesting to see if Pilgrim’ Pride will be able to find replacement workers after the raids by ICE.  I doubt that many Americans will jump at the chance.  I also so agree that low cost is king in this country.  We do not want to pay what it would cost to have fair labor compensation.  I don’t shop at Walmart any more because of their labor practices.  Watch the movie “The High Price of Low Cost” and you will be enlightened.  You can get it from Netflix.

Sorry JVA if I misread your post. You are 100% correct re the employers. They have to be held responsible but they do make it difficult for them. The documents that they are presented are hard to verify unless they are using the system to check the SS# or green card for it’s validity. When you let the problem fester for 20 years, it is very difficult to get a handle on it. Ray is also correct. When our neighbors go to the local 7-11 or hiring halls to get illegal workers, it underminds the entire system just to save a couple of bucks. I had Empire Carpet come out to give me an estimate on laminate flooring about a year ago.  The salesman advised me that they had fired several crews in the last 6 months as they were contacting those that had contracts with Empire to come out and do the work themselves at a substantial savings. He said that was a common practice in the carpet business with rouge contractors. That’s what kind of people we are dealing with. Empire was good enough to hire you but you then turn around and try to screw them out of business. What a mess we find outselves in.

I COMPLETELY agree, prudenciow.  The current law is like jailing all of the drug addicts while letting the crack dealers run wild.  The businesses that exploit and profit from hiring illegal immigrants are the root of the problem.

Of course, Tysons Chicken gives millions to political candidates.  So nobody is going to check the legal status of their employees slaughtering our chickens.

“So what is your solution to illegal immigration? Based on what I have read here from you in the past, you seem to believe that if any illegal immigrant can get to the interior of the US they should be allowed to stay. Is that your position? “

Not at all.  But I do think there are too many illegals already here to realistically deport all of them, and its pointless anyway because there is nothing in place to prevent them from just coming back again.

My solution: I would like to see a serious crackdown on businesses that hire illegals.  Huge fines and penalties that would make it extremely costly for companies to hire an illegal.  Its not really hard to know which companies to target first, right?

Illegal immigrants would not be coming here in these numbers if there were no jobs here for them.  On top of that, these companies would be forced to hire American workers.

I’m not sure what about my position is “pro-illegal”.

The amnesty of 1986 was passed with the promise of no more amnesty’s and work place enforcement. That is the promise we got from the Senator Ted Kennedy. Well here we are some 20 years later with 10 times the number of illegals in the country. We have pressed for work site enforcement but it has fallen on deaf ears. And when the Government does step up it’s enforcement, they are targted by the open borders crowd with being mean spirited for separating familes. It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t. We have reached a population of 300 million in the US. Much of that growth is due both legal and illegal immigration. The west coast is already dealing with serious shortages of water and othe resources but you guys don’t want to talk about the real issues. I have been to Capitol Hill and Richmond to talk to my legislators about this issue. I have been a member of FAIR for over 5 years. Many of you did not give a damn until the economy went south and now want to blame the current BOCS for your troubles. Where were you 5 years ago? Build the Damn Fence and send a strong message to Mexico that their game of sending their poor uneducated/unskilled citizens to the US has ended. Enforcement works. Just look at Arizona. They are leaving and going back to Mexico by the thousands.

What a waste of tax money.  Can’t believe where envy of success of hard working people are driving high activists into making “R***st” laws.  If they really wanted to fight against illegal immigration they would go to the culprit, how about the employers, or the citizens that hire day laborers for their personal needs when they could call a stablish company that is more “expensive” and will do the same job.  But I guess they just wanna save money, right???.  You see, if people was to hire licensed, insured, and bonded companies that only hire legal citizens and give them all the benefits and good pay, then there would be no motivations for illegal immigrants to come.  But I guess is much fun to pin-point a certain working class, like latinos.  Just my hunble opinion.

Cobra, I go out of my way to not use the “R” word on this board because I don’t buy the argument that the majority of the people supporting this resolution are racists.  You’re recent posts on this board, however, suggest that it might be appropriate to use it in your case.

JVA,
So what is your solution to illegal immigration? Based on what I have read here from you in the past, you seem to believe that if any illegal immigrant can get to the interior of the US they should be allowed to stay. Is that your position? If your answer is yes then that’s where you and I will disagree. I’m sorry but I have no middle ground on that issue. At some point you have to draw the line in the sand. We can no longer have blind compassion for everyone. I am all for guest workers but to be honest with you; I would rather get them from countries other then Mexico, El Salvador or many of the other countries in the Southern Hemisphere. Immigrants from Asia and Europe are far more educated and skilled and respect the laws of the land. They will not march in our streets demanding rights that they have not earned and claiming that the US was once theirs. They will not continue to have children with no means to care for them. Can’t recall reading one story about an Asian Illegal Immigrant driving drunk and leaving a Police Officer on the side of the road after hitting him. But please, tell me your solution.

You said it Ray.

Don’t you wonder what the point of this letter is?  It boggles my mind that good ol’ Cletis puts pen to paper once a week to dash off some bit of wisdom like this.  Is this letter supposed to educate people?  Does it advocate a position?  Does it attempt to persuade people to his opinion?

Not really, it just says “I will win this argument by being loud, obnoxious and slightly moronic.”

Why bother?
