Virginians shouldn’t be the only ones to pay

It’s beyond me why someone that one would suspect is fairly intelligent would continue to go back to the same well with regards to taxation of Virginia citizens.
Why is it that only Virginian’s are called to bear the brunt of highway and interstate maintenance when we sit astride arguably one of the busiest interstates in the U.S.?
Cross into Maryland and immediately you encounter tolls continually into New England which allow all interstate users to fairly assist toward its maintenance, high-speed tolls which do not inhibit
progress.
One toll just north of Richmond would not inhibit commuters nor the flow of traffic if well planned and constructed. But apparently our governor insists that ONLY Virginian’s should shoulder this burden.
I only hope our local legislators remain stalwart in this struggle with the Titan of Taxation — Mr. Kaine

If the state would keep tax revenue from NOVA in NOVA instead of subsidizing the rest of the state, we wouldn’t have the traffic problems that exist today. We shouldn’t be paying for transportation for the rest of the state! I’m glad I’am a transient here (active duty military)--This is the third time I’ve been assigned to the area in the past 13 years and relief from the traffic woes just keep getting worse. I’ll be glad to move next year; I hope I never come back!

Why not just increase the gas tax, something that hasn’t been done in 20 years? Other states have increased their gas taxes, but, due to inflation, Virginia’s gas tax has less buying power than it had 20 years ago. We may, in reality, be losing money, but in the Republican mindset a buck in your pocket is worth two in the bank.
