We must rally around Obama

Earlier this week, I wrote a letter to the editor with my thoughts as to why the Republicans lost the election in Prince William County, Virginia and across the nation. I believe they lost because of
STRIDENT MEANNESS.

That letter has not been published, and that may be OK because Andy Tainter’s letter (Obama supporters have been had) on Nov. 14, makes my case better than anything I possibly could have written.

It has been some time since I have read a letter so filled with pure malevolence and meanness. Hate fairly drips from the page as Mr. Tainter excoriates President-elect Barack Obama and his
supporters.

He has dragged out the same old accusations that cost the Republicans the election and unless they change, will cost them more in the future.

Interestingly enough, this obnoxious letter was printed alongside one written by Emily Cameron (Obama was well worth the wait) that was filled with hope, awe and fervent expectation.

It was front-page news as far as I am concerned. This country has made history; we have been witness to one of the greatest events in our time. Now as a nation, we must rally around this new president
and help him bring our nation out of the chaos that he has inherited.

“There are more important issues in life than worrying about same sex marriages. “

Unless you’re a gay person.

“So far I dont see change”

Did I miss the inauguration?  Why don’t you wait until the guy is sworn in before you start complaining like an imbecile that President Obama hasn’t changed anything yet.

“I see those who helped get us in the mess were in.“

Yeah right.  You and Rush Limbaugh both.

Its going to be really lonely for you in January when 4 million people show up on the mall to celebrate the new President and come together to change the country while you sit at home with a huge stick up your rear end nodding vigorously to Sean Hannity.

Enjoy the next eight years.

Not a code word for anything cobra ( is it Cobra?).  I don’t subscribe to MoveOn.org or to anything that Huffington says—they, too, are strident and often mean.  I’m just guessing, but I bet you voted for McCain and Palin.  What you do next is up to you.  Yu can help the new president-elect or you can be like Hannity or that big fat idiot Limbaugh and work on sabotaging President-elect Obama before he has even had a chance to attempt to fix eight years of chaos.

“STRIDENT MEANNESS”.
Is that a racist code word for Whitey? Just checking as the BHO campain staff listed almost every word used by McCain as somehow being a racist code word. What a silly post Georgie. Want to see some pure hate? Try moveon.stupid or huffingtonpost.

California’s Proposition 8 LOL! That was the biggest damn joke I ever saw in my life. It was already voted out and four judges on the state level supreme court over-turned it. So it came up again on the ballot, and once again it was voted out. While California is burning down, the pro-8’ers are demonstrating and Arnold the terminator is telling the folks to take it back to the supreme Court. Theere are more important issues in life than worrying about same sex marriages.

After reading Mr. Harris’s letter today I went back and reread the letters from Mr. Tainter and Ms. Cameron.  Mr. Tainters’s letter was strongly worded but not mean.  What I found interesting is that Mr. Harris had to resort to name calling and did not attempt to debate the content of the letter.

Is it true that increased corporate taxes will result in increased prices to consumers and less money in retirement plans?  Of course.  It is silly to assume that businesses would agree that they aren’t paying enought taxes and just suck it up.

Does Mr. Obama have the experience in domestic and international matters that Mr. McCain has?  Of course not.  Doesn’t mean that he won’t do a good job, but it is a fact.

It has been widely noticed that many people do think they will get “free stuff” by voting for Mr. Obama.  They aren’t of course, but it could be said that they have “been had”.

As for Ms. Cameron’s letter, it sounded like she was describing her attendance at a concert by her favorite artist.  Hmmm . . .

Healthy debate brings about good ideas and invites compromise to achieve the best solution.  Name calling should be left to the elementary school playground.

Actually, I think there are other reasons this election tipped in favor of the Dems—but if you want to go with “strident meanness”, be my guest.  It was a rather passionate campaign, after all, so I suppose there’s some truth in what you say.  It certainly didn’t help things any.

If you don’t mind though, I’d like to abstain from the “rally around Obama” segment of your missive, and adopt instead a wait-and-see approach.  Given the right opportunities, Mr. O should be able to get at least a few of his ideas off the ground before mid-2009.  I’m curious to see what effort he chooses to lead with, how Congress receives it, and how the public reacts.

This is Mr. O’s big chance, and I remain quietly optimistic as to the outcome.  Let’s see how he does.

“The true loyal ,conservatives have left the party. They are tired of the do nothings that only complain. “

Maybe.  I still think its the social conservatives who are killing the GOP.  There are a lot of libertarian minded people who agree with the traditional GOP principles of small government, low taxes, etc;  These people have been totally repulsed by the GOP’s seemingly endless need to make themselves involved in our personal lives.

It is amazing that so many conservatives does not see their mistakes of the past.
It is not necessarily the old folks that have lost their sence. In the local Party it seems it is the middle aged that have gone astray and thinks only they can be right. In the meantime they have lost us many elections all for their own selfish attitudes.
The true loyal ,conservatives have left the party. They are tired of the do nothings that only complain.
It’s happening all over the Country and one day people will wake up.
