We want an intelligent president this time

Americans always course correct concerning their presidents. After the slow but steady Ike, they corrected with the dashing and glamorous Kennedy. After the ethically and morally challenged Nixon, they went with the humble and honest Georgia governor. After Carter was falsely perceived as weak, the country went with the roaring lion Reagan.
After the figurehead Reagan, they went with the technocrat but domestically aloof Bush. After Bush, they went with the “I feel your pain” empathetic Clinton. After the embarrassing and ethically challenged Clinton, we went with an apparent straight shooter named Dubya.
Now in 2008, Americans are fatigued by a president who lacks intellectual curiosity, doesn’t understand the complexity of the issues and lacks the communication skills of a toddler. This is why Obama will be president. He is everything that W is not.
McCain is a great man but his time has passed. If the Republicans had nominated him in 2000 then our country would have been better off.
McCain casually jokes about finishing at the bottom of his college class as Bush did before him. Now is not the time for that.
Dim but stubborn politicians are no longer cute. We want intelligence and attention to detail back in the White House. America will course correct again.

Well, phdee does have a point. The Rove Machine labeled John W. McBush as mentally damaged. Did he recover in the past 8 years? cobra, good to see that crystal ball is still in good working order. Who do you have in this Sunday’s NASCAR race? Oh, and did your Mexican-built Mustang Cobra come in yet?

phdee,
Do you only hear what you want to hear?
Sen. McCain said he would maintain troop presence in Iraq for 100 years, if necessary. He DID NOT say he would continue the current war for 100 years.
When would you propose that we pull our troops out of Germany & Japan? Our war with those countries ended more than 60 years ago. How about South Korea? That war ended over 50 years ago.
I would like to again propose a law that everything in any political advertisement, at any level, be the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth; and God help the advertiser if it is not.
The selection of our elected officials is far too important to be decided by the propagation and acceptance of lies.

CDobra, I thought McCain was mentally ill. At least that’s what your Republican favorite, G. W. bush, alleged during the last presidential election. Has Mccain recovered? This the 100-year wsr candidate.

cobra,
Since your post followed mine, I guess you are referring to me.
I may be a disappointed liberal in November, but, as I have said before, I will vote for John McCain. I am as much liberal as my father was conservative, but I have never been a Democrat & he was never a Republican.

You’re going to be one disappointed liberal come November. There is no comparison between McCain and Obama. All we hear is the word Change. He has absolutely no experience to run this country. His associations with the anti-America crowd have already tarnished his image. His flip flopping makes John Kerry look good. Liberals have had the house & senate for two years now and what do we have to show for it? Record gas prices, slow economy but they will try and blame that on Republicans. Harry Ried and Nancy Pelosi have accomplished absolutely nothing. Fox news conducted Town Hall meetings all over the US. The participants were asked to name one legislative accomplishment by Obama. Surprise, they could not name one thing he has done. He is just a wonderful speaker. If I wanted a Toast Master for President then I would support Tony Robbins. Come on Libs, is Obama the best you all can do?

I have an IQ well above average, but it took me five years to get out of high school.
Intelligence isn’t everything, there is also motivation. I wasn’t happy as a freshman, moving from a small town in the Idaho mountains to a small, California beach strip community where the only thing of any consequence was in a city of 60,000, five miles away. I wanted nothing more than to survive until I could escape. That was a mistake, but I learned from it.
What is the true motivation of each of the candidates?
There is also the ability to stand up to pressure. Sen. McCain has stood up to torture, the pain of wounds, and the stress of being a prisoner of war. What is the most pressure Sen. Obama has stood up to?
There is also a little thing called “common sense”. Intelligence tells you that if you jump from the top of a ten-story building, you will come to a sudden stop when you reach ground level; common sense tells you it ain’t gonna be pretty.
I want a president who sees himself, not as the leader of the people, but as the employee of the people. I want a president motivated, not to advance his interests or his party’s interests but,to advance the collective interests of the people.
I want a president not afraid to act, lest he make a mistake, & willing to admit any mistake made.
I want a president who will fill appointed positions with qualified people, not “heckuva job Brownies”.
I want a president who will fill judicial positions with people who make decisions based on the spirit of the law as well as the letter of the law.
I want a president who will negotiate from a position that is as just as it is strong.
I want a president who can see the true character of men like Vladimir Putin &
Hu Jintao and will not refer to them as people with good hearts.
I want a president who say to those in San Francisco, & other places, who say they don’t want our armed forces, “I will take those forces to places that want them and the money that comes with them. Within my power, I will cut off federal funds and restrict federal hiring of people with degrees from your obviously anti-American educational establishments.“
It may not be possible to fill all of those qualifications, but I’d like as many as possible.
