What ‘surge’ Senator McCain?

Have you noticed that Senator McCain keeps talking about the “success” of the “surge” in Iraq without mentioning that the whole war in Iraq should never have been launched in the first place and has
been a disaster from day one? I think he is trying to keep us from remembering the lies from the Bush administration in the run-up to the war, and focus on his “double talk” about “progress” in Iraq.
Besides, if the “surge” is working in Iraq, then why is Senator McCain dragging his feet on withdrawing our troops? Why doesn’t he go along with the Iraqi government’s wishes for American troops to leave
by 2010? Of course, throwing large amounts of troops in Iraq has reduced violence. But, at what cost and for how long? I think McCain’s true wishes, like Bush, are now obvious — permanent
occupation.
Well, Senator McCain, the majority of the American public and world don’t agree.
The only “surge” that has taken place is the people’s realization that the Iraq war has been a fiasco, diverting our attention from Afghanistan, where the real war against terrorism should be fought, as
Senator Obama has urged for months. The real “surge” is here in our country in foreclosures, unemployment, inflation, gas prices, the budget deficit, food prices and numbers of wounded returning
soldiers, all of which Senator McCain and the Republicans don’t want you to remember.
So what “surge” are you talking about Senator McCain — the “surge” diversion in Iraq, or the “surge” on issues that really matter to the American people?

Do you know,
First there’s Cris Cummings fantasizing about what I wear when I’m posting; now we have Cobra fantasizing about my legs and talking about his manly arms.
Ya gotta wonder about these folks…

“6’2 240lbs with arms the size of your legs”
6’2” 240? Good grief. You’ve got me by two inches and sixty pounds.
And if you have arms the size of my legs, it might just mean you need to lay off the cheeseburgers there, big boy. I’ve heard good things about Atkins.

cobra,
Upon graduation from HS in 1974 I had one way to get out of town; join the military. I chose the Navy because going to sea was in my family’s history, and because I wanted to be part of something “bigger” than a fast-food franchise.
I’m sure having the option of a Scholarship to play football at UVA had no bearing on your decision to pass up the opportunity to serve your country, at a time when it wasn’t popular to do so.
Oh, and I go by “Ron,“ not “Ronnie.“ Only my 86 year old aunt calls me “Ronnie.“ After the many insults you’ve hurled at me, you can keep the soda or coffee.

Ronnie,
Upon graduation from HS in 1979, I had two choices. Join the Marine Corps or accept a Scholarship to play football at UVA. I met with the recruiters on 5 occasions accompanied by my retired Marine Corps Father. We were just 4 years removed from the Vietnam War and they offered me nothing in the way of education or job training. Many of the recruiters quietly whispered that it was not a good time to be in the Marines due to budget cuts and the overwhelming anti-military sentiment at the time. I respect all that serve but you don’t get a free pass just because of your Military Service. If you would like to call me a coward to my face then please attend the next PWCBOS meeting. I can easily be identified in the crowd. I’m 47 years old, 6’2 240lbs with arms the size of your legs. I promise to make nice if you want to talk in a civil tone. Just approach me and introduce yourself as Ronnie. I’ll even buy you a soda or cup of coffee.

cobra,
What continues to amaze me is how people such as yourself - those who are least willing to fight in Iraq - are the ones cheering on this war the loudest. Your group of people are also the ones who are quickest to mock anyone who is opposed to unnecessary death and destruction, even if those opposing are actual veterans themselves (“Phony Soldiers”).
Call me an appeaser all you want - I have a word for people like you. The word starts with “C”, ends with “D”, and rhymes with “Howard.“

No doubt Cobra. That’s why we had such a huge coalition of countries wanting to attack Iraq. Bill Clinton could barely restrain himself from sending the troops in.
“Man I’m suprised not to see the word Halliburton in the same sentence with Cheney? How did you control youself? “
What’s left to say? Iraq was a completely unnecessary fiasco. Halliburton has made billions. I don’t even care any more. I just want Bush and Cheney gone where they can’t cause any more damage to our country.

Ronnie,
Keep feeding the alligators you appeaser. Libs stood by in the 90’s and allowed Suddam to kill 300,000 of his own people. Your Boy Billy Clinton bombed an Aspirin Factory during the Monica scandal. I know your old and your memory is fading, so I will go back and get all the quotes from the libs who stated Suddam was a grave threat. Yeah we know, Republicans are just arm twisters. Libs can’t think for themselves. Again, I’m amazed to see Cheney’s name without a reference to Halliburton.

You’re so right. Democrats did largely sign off on the war. Why? Oh yeah, because Bush/Cheney told them we were going to secure the vast stockpiles of Iraqi WMD. Whether this was a deception or a screw-up of epic proportions, who knows?
JVA,
You know damn well that the entire world intelligence body had warned of the WMD’s in Iraq. We can go back and get the quotes from Bill Clinton and many other Democrats who stated that Suddam was a grave threat. Did you forget about the Aspirin Factory that Clinton bombed? Let’s quit playing word games here. Let’s all agree that the intelligence was indeed flawed but let’s also look at the facts. That monster had killed over 300,000 of his own people. He used WMD’s on the Kurds and Iranians. He and his sons raped and killed hundreds of woman in Iraq. In one instance after an Olympic soccer game which Iraq lost, Uday made the coach lay down on the floor in front of hundreds of people only to urinate on him. The coach killed himself within hours of that humiliation. How about the tree mulching machines which were used to put people in there feet first which resulted in a slow agonizing death. Did you not see the news when they opened up all those mass graves? Funny how libs cared nothing about those that were being killed for 30 years but all of a sudden became caring when the US went to war to rid Iraq of this dictator. Oh that selective moral outrage is a laughable from the libs. If libs had their way, we would be up to resolution #50 with Iraq. Man I’m suprised not to see the word Halliburton in the same sentence with Cheney? How did you control youself?

Richarcm,
If you check the voting record for Congress’s approval for POSSIBLE military action against Iraq, you’ll see that in the House, nearly all Republicans voted to approve and nearly all Democrats voted against.
In the Senate, all but one Republican voted to approve, and only about half the Democrats did. Of those who did, former Senators Edwards and McClellan have now publicly stated voting to approve was a mistake. Several other Democratic senators have stated they chose to believe President Bush’s claims of having intelligence information that showed Saddam was a great and imminent threat that was not reflected in publicly available information.
Let us also not forget all the many Republican officials beating the drums for war in the weeks leading up to that vote, with most all Democrats calling for restraint and more time to evaluate information, or even trying to stop the war completely (and being publicly ridiculed as a result).
Of course, with today’s news we see that not only did President Bush/Cheney’s staff cherry-pick intelligence to fit their war plans; but they may also have actually forged documents to pass along to news media.
Last I checked, both Bush and Cheney are Republicans – so don’t be trying to hang the Iraq war on Democrats. This is a Republican war, started by the standard bearer of the Republican Party – G.W. Bush.
